ported tb

hey guys, i was going to get my tb ported and polished, just was wondering... will this throw off any timing or detonation issues? If I get this done will I have to get it tuned or will it simply be a bolt on, put it on and thats it... get more power. I did a search and it seemed that it could go either way.

thanks

Re: ported tb

eh, dont listen to him. I love the throttle response i get now after porting mine. If you do it yourself its hella worth it. I got a good seat of the pants gain when i did mine along with cleaning all the carbon out of it and cleaning the MAF

Re: ported tb

if you do it yourself you should have no problems bolting it up. no tuning required.

HOWEVER

if you buy one form somebody, it is possible it will not come equipped with the IAC and TPS. you'll need swap them from your stock TB...and i think a scan tool of some kind is needed to get them adjusted correctly.

Re: ported tb

The TPS should be set to .5 Volts I believe. I THe IAC should just be plug and play. I bought the P+P'd TB from SLP. It came w/ everything, IAC and TPS. Was already set up. Was a true bolt on replacement. Injuneer might have the specs on the TPS, or Shoebox.

I wouldn't worry about the detonation concern. All the PORTing really does is take the edge off in front of the throttle plate. That and basically give it a bigger mouth. The area around the throttle plate at a closed position isn't changed much. The polishing just smoothes it out. You'll see more of a gain w/ it as you add mods like cam, or displacement increase. But as far as that people usually go w/ a FAST set up... some the 90/90...

That was the statmant wasn't it?

TPS is stationary. No set up no adjustment. IAC is no set up.

LT1 is the same. They all can be made adjustable by reaming the mounting holes out larger.

Last adjustable TPS was TPI.

There's no need to wait. I put a ported TB on mine and my throttle response improved, top end improved and I dropped a bit at the track. Aside from a air lid I feel it's a great first batch of mods to do.
