Please read this... Need some suggestions...
Hey guys. My mods are in my sig. What I am after is a Street Legal mid to low 10 second car. I am currently in the works of getting FLP headers, and a 12 bolt rear-end. What else would you guys recommend? I was thinking of like an 8# procharger, with a nice heads/cam package. What EXACTLY would I need? I am looking for exact numbers, lift duration, etc. I know you cannot TRULY tell whether I will run 10's, but I want to at least be in the ballpark. What Stall/Torque Converter do you recommend? I know this will cost a bit of money, and I am looking to spend as little as possible, however I am willing to spend $10,000 if it takes it. Am I going the wrong approach? Should I look into a 383 stroker? What do you guys suggest? Should I not look into a supercharger at all? Please list what I should get after my 12 bolt rearend. I am working on the suspension currently, so don't worry on that too much. Thanks, guys. I know there are a LOT of you guys in the 10's, so please tell me which route you personally suggest. Thanks.

Well, there are a lot of ways to get there. But remember, it's not hp alone, traction/suspension is a big factor. I've seen folks with very few mods hook-up their way into the 11s/10s, and others with sick hp slip and slide their way to "only" 10s.
But about hp, you can stroke, spray, or supercharge (or turbo) your way into the 10s, but either way I'd plan on doing heads/cam to match whatever setup you go with. You'll also want to beef up your tranny and get a convertor that corresponds with your engine mods. Have you checked around at LS1.com or the LS1 Tech section here? You'll find more specific answers for your '01 there. ------------------ More fun than the law allows! |
I am kind of a newbie to racing all together. I have SOOOO MUCH to learn. I can't figure out which way is the best for my motor, and am looking for the SPECIFIC setup which should get me there. And what do you mean by beef up my tranny? Get another one? Thanks.

10s shouldnt be too hard with a ls1 i would stay with your stock rearend as long as possible i run 10s on the stocker autos are generally easier i would stay away from turbos & s/c & would go with a proven heads/cam package & small nitrous & every suspension piece you can get thats the cheapest way & thats a 10 sec package

I am not into nitrous. Heads and Cams alone won't get me here right? Well at least street legal ones.

Here is what a local guy has:
a relatively small cam (I can't recall the specs, but it is very close to the LS6 cam) locally ported heads stock LS6 intake 3.73s in a 12-bolt SLP long tubes 2800 Vigilante converter lots of suspension work 275/40ZR17 Nitto DRs on stock rims with the same size up front Oh yeah, a TNT 100 shot http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif He's run a best of 10.82 @ ~124mph. There are getting to be more and more LS1 cams out there. Go with a relatively big one with well ported heads, put a big Yank or Vigilante converter in (at least 3500 stall), 3.73s with an auto or 4.10s with a stick in a strong rear end, put some sticky tires on it and GO! That'll put you deep in the 12s EASY. You can spray it and do some suspension work and you'll get at least low 11s, probably 10s with good weather. ------------------ Cheston P - IM_A_0@yahoo.com AIM:Impalaitis 96 BBB Impala SS "ADIOSS" 91 white Caprice 'n0n 9c1' w/L03 GM_TBI listserv GMForums.com ImpalaSSForum.com |
