Normal running temp
I have an 02 Z28 w/4,000 miles. The temperature always runs right at 200 no matter what. Is this normal, the temp outside is like 40. Thanks for any feedback.

the year of car u have came with DUMMY GAUGES your temp is actually around 180 when driving and climbs to 210 when at idle for awhile i know this because i have a 98Z and in that year the temp gage was the real thing
|
Yes, my temp gage shows 200 all the time too. GM did not want to hear complaints about your temp going up and down so they wired a circut to the gage so it would stick on 200 when it swings 20 high or low from 200. I sure hope someone can figure out a free mod so we can have a real temp gage back.

What year did the change occure? My 2000 does the same thing. A temp change of 20 degrees doesn't worry me too much. I just want to know it is there.
|
The change occured in '99 or'00. Maybe someone with a '99 can let us know!
|
Change happened in 99. Please someone figure out how to get a real gauge back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
|
98 was the only year LS1 with an accurate gauge. 200 is normal and perfect running temp.

My 99 Z goes upto 210, 10 minutes after I start it. I was a little scared about that until I found out that was normal. One thing I found out was during the Woodward Dream cruise my voltage dropped after sitting on the street idling waiting to move up. Any suggestions on that?

My car is a 99 and it is ALWAYS at 210. I find this to be somewhat rediculous. If someone is not smart enough to figure out that the temp. of the engine changes, they should not be driving an LS1:rolleyes:
Until they come out with some sort of mod, im stuck at 210  |
What's the big deal? I have an '02 and mine stays right around 210. That's normal. I had a '99 that was in the same place. If it's too hot, it WILL go up. I had it happen multiple times on the '99. I never could understand why everyone crys about the temp guage so much.
|
I bought an aftermarket one anyways.

Ryuhei: I never could understand why everyone crys about the temp guage so much.
Its not so much that we cry about it, we would like something that represents reality. Yes it does go up if the car overheats, but does not show accurately what happens during normal driving. I believe GM changed the response due to the complaints received in the first year. Many of the people could not understand the fact that an engine heats up, themorstat opens and then the temperature will vary with driving, stopping, etc. Therefore they changed it to a steady number for normal operating temp. |
