Is this normal?
Hi all,
Loving reading all the great posts since I joined.
HISTORY: I'm a car idiot, but I bought a 98Z M6 a few of months ago. I took it to Chevy for regular maintenance (51k miles). They did the lube and oil, serviced the tranny and rear, and replaced the cat. BTW: they didn't even replace the air filter though! They also induced an exhaust leak I've to to get fixed now--at a union in the pipe right under where I sit.
I've noticed my car seems to run quite differently at different times. Sometimes it vibrates more than I think is normal at higher RPMs, particularly when it's cold, but at other times too.
Anyway, I'd like to give some facts and have you fellow owners tell me if this all sounds normal:
* The car takes 5 minutes to warm to just under 1/4
* It usually runs there (1/4), but sometimes for no apparant reason it'll shoot to just under 1/2 (like it did in the summer)
* It cruses nicely at 2k rpm an any gear, and is quite happy at about 1500 if I don't push it
* I shift between 2k and 3k (depending upon traffic, etc., and unless I'm playing)
* I get 17mpg (=/- 1 mpg)
* I run Shell V-Power
* I've killed the engine in 1st twice in a parking lot--sometimes it's really weak when warm (until I get going)
* For power, all I can say is it will give me whiplash if I want it. I had to get into 55mph traffic from a dead stop today, so when I found a [small] slot to fit into I jumped on it. The tires squeaked a bit in 1st (becuase I was careful not to spin them), and squeaked again in 2nd. I was at speed in plenty of time to get into traffic.
* I only use 6th at 70+ (that's about 1600rpm+)
Also, I was at Les Sch. last week to get the rotors turned (braking vibration--now gone), and the sales person took it upon himself to give me an estimate for a suspension package that he said "...would lower the car 1.5 inches all round and let you get more from your ground effects pkg.). What can you tell me about this suspension change? Bummer is I'd have to buy new back tires--I just bought new tires all round, and the rear ones are just a bit bigger than the fronts, and I don't think they'd fit if I lowered it.
Thanks in advance for any answers.
Oh yeah, what's an average cost for plugs and wires (and labor)? I'm thinking I should have this done, but would have to have someone else do it.
Thanks all!

Re: Is this normal?
What size tires are on the rear of the car now? Chances are they'll be just fine if you lowered the car.
Another thing, quit spending money on labor for all that easy stuff and take your labor money and put it into some tools and do it yourself! Saves more money for mods down the road.
