nervously bought a used compressor
nervously bought a used compressor
Please guys throw me some light on pros & cons of my decision to have paid equiv. of $140 for a used A/C compressor for my ls1 this afternoon. The part number differs slightly from my previous original (1137028 as against 1137020 for this) but looks & weighs identical, and its used. I know we've no crystal *****
, but from your experiences, what are the chances it will last me 1 year? The brandnew part is $475. Have I made a good money saving decision? (The used dealer has given a 3 day grace/guarantee period if i decide to return it)

Re: nervously bought a used compressor
Obviously it largely depends on the condition of the compressor. Was it on the shelf with the ports sealed or did it come directly off the car with the system still sealed?
If it came directly off the car with the system still pressureized, that would be best to minimize the chance that it was contaminated. If it wasn't sealed, it would still work, but more chance of problems with the system down the road from possible contamination.
Make sure and have the system flushed/vacuumed after the install, likely work just fine.

Thanks for your response angel71. Got the car back last evening, but the cooling is just about on the 60% of what used to be max. This is despite turning the **** all the way to the highest cooling. I shall go back to the shop tomorrow to see how it can be rectified. Shall keep this board posted. Thanks
Re: nervously bought a used compressor
Well, the cooling deteriorated steadily until it was hot air. Went back and no compressure pressure. Returned the used compressor on the last day of the guarantee (yesterday) and swore I would never buy a used one again (i figure it was remade, as the guy later kept my old one). Got a brand new Acdelco. Works fine now. And thanks for your (angel71) post on the ls1 idler pulley, very resourceful.
