Need help Bad!
Tonight i'm just driving along and i missed third gear, I wasn't getting on it or anything just an honest mistake I thought no real harm no foul. Little did i know that from that point on my car will hardly go into 3rd, or it will pop out if not forced to stay there. This to me sounds like my tranny is blown? or needs a rebuild. My car only has 17,000 is this a problem that happens offen? I'm going to take it in on monday so they can look at it. I'm so pissed... Any advice would be great.

I could be way off here. I read something about this a week ago on this board. It may not be your tranny. I think it has something to do with the detent or the rigging. You may just need an adjustment. If you lost third gear, I think it would be a lot worse.

Do you have an aftermarket shifter, if so you may have to adjust it, with the stock shifter it sounds like you may have ruined the syncros or it could also just need adjustment, I had a similar problem where the gear popped out a few times and I slammed it in gear while I was driving and it never happened again. Sounds like just the syncros to me which in the m6 does take some work to fix, you have to pull out the tranny.
Either a bent shifting rod or a damged gear, either one needing the attention of the dealer, good thing your under warranty.
I haven't seen this often but it does happen. My buddy broke his 5 spd in a 90 IROC in the same manner, yes it needed a rebuild.

Tis the syncros there is a problem with them you can get the facts from ls1.com Your warranty will replace them just dont tell them you ever raced. My car does the same thing but a guy just hit it so I will let his insurance replace them this time. Good luck.
I knew I saw this before - Tech Service Bulletin
Bulletin No.: 01-07-29-003A
Date: May, 2001
Subject: Transmission Jumps Out of 3rd Gear (Replace Shift Fork, 3-4 Synchronizer Assembly, 3rd Gear Blocker Ring and 3rd Speed Gear)
Models:
1999-2000 Chevrolet Camaro
1999-2000 Pontiac Firebird
with Manual Transmission (RPO MM6)
This bulletin is being revised due to a change in part numbers. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 01-07-29-003 (Section 07 - Transmission/Transaxle).
Condition: Some owners may comment that the transmission jumps out of 3rd gear.
Cause: Condition may be caused by inadequate travel of the 3-4 synchronizer assembly due to the 3-4 shift fork being out of specification or bent.
Correction
Notice : Please review the appropriate section of the Transmission Unit Repair Manual for correct disassembly and assembly instructions. When performing this bulletin, ALL parts listed need to be replaced. The condition originally occurs because of the 3-4 shift fork being out of specification or bent. This eventually results in damage to the synchronizer assembly, the blocker ring and the speed gear. Replace the 3-4 synchronizer assembly, the 3rd gear blocker ring, the 3rd speed gear and the 3-4 shift fork.
When you take it in, you may want to mention this TSB. Good luck!
