You ever seen the K/n Test machines? You have to push a ball up to the top of the tube. Put the paper filter on, and the ball sits at the bottom, put the K/n on and the ball goes up to the top. thats not just cleaner air pushin it up its more air. therefore the k/n does flow better.

I am also in the market for a LID and was thinking of the clear one for my '98 Z28. Can someone post a couple of websites of some good ones to compare prices? I just ordered my GMMG cat back today. Also, I have somewhat of a different ram air hood, similar to a Trans Am or Firehawk but for my Z28. I think it is called an Ultra-Z hood. I am kinda nervous about getting a lid and it not giving me enough clearence to shut my hood. Am I just worrying too much?

Check out some of the supporting vendors website such as Thunder Racing or TByrnes motorsports or Texas Speed. They all have lids at competitive prices. I myself am going with the TSP clear lid and holley filter. Just my .02

Yeah I've seen those filter demo machines. The K&N DOES flow better...mcuh better than stock. I jsut don't understand this guys statement about having more flow not equal more power.

well, the only way I can help you all understand is that I have had over 40 pulls on my car at the same dyno.. Over 20 in the same day..

paper filter = more power..
all others = loss in power..

Going to dyno yet again soon and will do the test yet again..

All of my pulls were very consistant and done within the same minute of eachother between changes..

Believe what you want, thats your choice, I did my testing and feel good about what my findings were..

Ask around the board.. Others had tested similarly and found out the same..

Psycho,

I want to get the lid before I dyno, then I can try different combinations. I want to know what it's putting down with the lid. I'm also going to be getting a cutout installed very soon so I may just wait. I'm thinking about doing a run with cutout open, lid installed, Green filter - then a pull with the same thing with a stock filter. Let me know how your dyno results turn out, I think I'm going to wait until I at least have my cutout and lid ready to rock.

Here is the way a cotton gauze filter can filter better and still flow better. OIL.

Dust and other particles have an affinity (they are attracted to) oil. Just the cotton gauze unoiled they don't filter as well, but oil them and its a different game.

If the K&N cost me a hp I don't care. I look at it this way, get a filter for filtration. Look for power gains elsewhere.
