mods to 35th ss?
Would it be wise to modify (bolt-ons) to a 35th SS?:) Or should I leave it alone? Will it be worth any thing in the future or not? I bought the SS in Oct of 2001, it currently has 4,225 on it it is basically garage kept, I drive my 95 camero V6, 3.4L any input would be appreciated, oh yeah, which exhaust system should I get if I do decide to replace the stock one: SLP Loudmouth or Flowmasters 80 series? Thanks

Dang! Nice car! And welcome to the board!
Well, if i had the car, i'd probably leave it as-is, especially if you dont plan to drive it much. Thats what i would do, but i love the things and mods i've done to my car, so its hard to choose. And remember, once u start modding, you'll never stop! It adds up like a bit**! But good luck on your decision...you really cant go wrong with either choice IMO.. |
I own a 35th LE also!!:D :( Too bad its in the body shop waiting to get the right q.panel fixed, and the right alignment corrected crap. Dont even ask, i dont want to explain. Im just grateful that nothing else was damaged. If you want to, modify it. If and when i get it back, Im going to do the Flow Pack(CAI, Air Lid, smooth Bellow, KnN filt.) MAF, Loudmouth, y-pipe, and center dual exhaust all from SLP Eng/PP. Cosmetics will be the 35th Ann SS grille and probably a rear taillight panel painted gloss black which will ressemble something like the Berger SS. If youre worried about how much itll be worth in the future, dont even touch, hell dont even drive it! These cars are just too much fun and beautiful to just be left alone in a garage hoping to gain value. Either way 35th Anniversary SS LE
Oh and dont get Flowmasters, Youll either see no gain or lose power. |
i would leave it as is....when u decide to sell it one day collectors will love the fact its untouched....but if u feel the need then get some basic bolt ons that you can take off easily
welcome aboard:D |
I bought my car to have fun with, I got in Jan '02 with 34 miles and now have 17,400 miles.
But if you like just looking at it thats cool ;) You can do little things: LS-6 MAF, LID, HPP-3 of Predator, should be about 20 more hp. |
In 15 to 20 myears your car will be worth more in mint condition show room stock. The less you do to it the more it will be worth as a collectors item. Remember your car is the last model in a 35 year run. It is also the highest optioned model. It will be worth something in the future!
However, you can also mod it with bolt-ons. These can also be bolted off. Save the original equipment for when you wish to return the car to showroom condition. Then you can be the envy of everyone at carshow, rallies, rod runs, etc. etc. |
thaks for the info and the welcome abord
Thanks to all who replied and for the welcome aboard, I feel like I'm a part of history now:alert:  :metal:

I'd probably leave a 35th alone... but to each his own. Do what makes you happy!

Go ahead and modify it.. just remember to keep all the original parts to put them back on later if you need to sell it. The car is not going to be really worth anything more untill 20 years down the road... if you can wait that long, then dont touch it. Cars are meant to be driven.

Drive that thing. I started to put mine on blocks when I found out it was 1 of 41 but remembered why I bought it. I bought it to enjoy it. If I only rub the fender for the next 30 years and never drive it, it might be worth a pretty penny. But then am I gonna sell it to somebody in their 30's with a ton of stock earnings so that they can drive it around and enjoy it? Heck no! I'm gonna enjoy it now. I'm also gonna take care of it and hopefully it'll still be a super sharp car 30 years from now. Even if I put 200,000 miles on it, if it's been well taken care of a collector would still have the same interest.
Unfortunately 2002-CamaroSS and I have the same problem right now. A semi decided to change lanes on me and took out my driver's door, quarter panel and rocker panel with his trailer tires. I searched long and found a shop that I'm sure will get it looking like nothing ever happened. But it's still just a car. I worship the car. It's the funnest car I've ever driven. But it's still just a car. I autocross it. I drive it every day. 22,000 miles and it's exactly 1 year old. I'm starting to put bolt ons on it now. But everything I take off goes in the attic for future availability. Enjoy the car. That's what it's there for. |

LM is louder, but i like the sound of flowmaster better.
Oh, and flowmaster will not make you lose power over a stock muffler. |
