LTs and smog

I have a stupid question.....I know that I can bootleg a cat onto a setup w/ longtubes; however, will I even pass the smog test if I don't have egr hooked up? I am trying to find a way around the whole emissions thing...but if i can't, I wanted to see if I can still run the LT's w/ a cat and still pass...Thanks for your input.

If you put cats on the car it will more than likely pass the test. EGR doesnt really lower your emissions that much. It all depends on how strict your emissions testing is. LTs are illegal in all 50 states because you are moving your cats. Its a federal law, not state. But otherwise, as far as the sniffer goes, you should be ok.

What I was thinking is that since I am putting a LS1 in a 1994, they are going to ask me the year and when I tell them 94' they are automatically going to stick the sniffer up the tail pipe.....therefore, if the levels are correct, there wouldn't be any problem not running egr....am I completely off?

I thought engine swaps were permitted as long as they are a newer engine in the car, I could be wrong, maybe its older cars I'm thinking of. anyway here is greenhouse gases for a 95 http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/11751.shtml and for the 2002 http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/noframes/17454.shtml so as you can see the new LS1 puts out less polution, and starting I believe in 99 or 00 they became classified as low emission engines. I can't see how they would give you a problem. I've heard of people not passing without egr, and without cats, but I don't know how strick they're state was. You could always have the threaded piece welded onto the header so it has egr, or if you get a newer engine the 01-02 didn't have egr probably because the cam profile acts as one (intake/exhaust) overlap. So I would think it will pass, unless they actually need to see it hooked up.
