LT motor compared to LS motor

What are some of the pros and cons of the LT motors and the LS motors? What are they differences?

The LSx was a clean-sheet design that shared nothing but bore-spacing with the LTx/SBC. With technology comes improvement, so here are some LSx high-lights:
aluminum block (70-80lb weight savings)
cathedral-port 15-degree heads (probably the single biggest improvement)
rifle-drilled camshaft
lightweight polymer intake
coil-on-plug ignition
faster ECMs
rigid stress-bearing oil-pan
6-bolt-mains (probably no stronger than the LTx 4-bolt, tho)

in addition, a 9.24" deck height with more room to swing BIG stroke cranks. 4" stroke? pfft. there have been a few crazy people who shoved a 4.5" stroke into one, clears the cam!

There are no cons when comparing the LS1 to the LT1.

LS1s sound like girly cars compared to LT1s.

Cost. The LT1 still has it's place since the aftermarket is strong and parts/complete motors are usually cheaper than the LS1. The down side is you need a modded LT1 to make the same power as a stock LS1.

Before the LTx guys get all disgruntled, I agree that they have some valid points. The iron-block, cast intake of the LTx motors make a great foundation for a FI set-up. Cost is also generally lower, although it may not be for much longer. Also the compatabilty with the SBC gives the LTx many more options...
Having said that, the LTx was merely a stop-gap to keep the SBC viable. It just happened to be an excellent performer...

There's way more than 30 hp difference between a stock LT1 and a stock LS1. GM underrated the f-body LS1s by about 35-40 hp. Heck a lot of them make over 300 to the wheels stock.

Not that there's anything wrong with an LT1, it's just that I personally don't want a heavy cast iron motor with a leaky intake and an optispark.

Its not that the LT1 isn't worth it or even that its junk. The point is that the LS1 was designed to better the LT1 and overcome its short comings. Now, the LS1 has its issues to but you can make more power easier, have more fuel efficiency, and with the aftermarket the way it is now, you can a well priced stroker shortblock that will generate tons of power.

Also, yes, a stock 98 ls1 made about 345hp or 335-340hp with the ls1 manifold. The ls6 manifold equiped ls1's made about 10-15hp more than that.

The deal is, imagine a LT1 with no ignition issues, better heads and manifold, lighter and able to produce more power for less, not to mention better efficiency, that is what the LS1 is.
