LS6 or LS1 heads?

I was just wondering what you guys think about putting a pair of LS6 heads on my 98 Z? Pace parts sells Ported LS6 heads with springs, valves, and retainers for $2200 or I could go with a ported LS1 head for about $1500-$2000? Which is better? I know that to get the proper power of the LS6 I also need the LS6 cam, LS6 intake manifold, and my PCM reprogrammed. The price is listed for a head so im guessing I need to double the price cause I need both. http://www.paceparts.com/product.asp...&1=246&3=55979
tell me what you guys think and if you can recommend any ported heads for under $2000.

Depends on what you have in mind for a cam??

Heads really have to be mated to a cam. The LS6 CNC heads are designed to flow well through .550 and up to that point they rate as well or better than any other stageII heads out there.

So if you mate them with something like the Hot Cam or some other low lift split duration cam, these are some kick *** heads.

But if you are going with a highlift cam, symetric or revese split, these heads aren't going to work the best. First, they come with the LS6 springs, so that will be a weak point with a high lift cam. Second, though they flow well on the intake, they are a little weak, comparativley speaking, on the exhaust side. A split cam will make up for it with a longer duration exhaust lobe, but this will hinder something like the B1 cam at 220/220. Third, if you are going with a high lift cam, these heads will be past thier peak, just as some other head will be coming into thier peak.

As, for price, remember these heads have flow rates comparable with stage II heads, so make sure you aren't comparing prices to stage I heads. Also look at the core charge. These heads have no core charge, so you keep your stock heads for resale. Last these are GMPP heads and can be purchased from any GMPP supplier, including your local dealer. I've also seen these heads from other internet suppliers for less than $1900 a pair - shop around.

Good Luck
