Question LS1 Mileage?

I am looking to get into a camaro this spring. I would love to get a ls1 if I have have the money, but don't know if I will be able to afford it. My question is what is too much, in terms of miles on the lt1 and ls1. Also anything I should look for. Thanks for the info guys!

I'd get anything with 50k or less miles on it, at least thats the rule of thumb I have when I go out and buy a car.

GO with the LS1

In my life time I have owned 2 camaro SS both A4 and 99, 1st I bought 2 summers ago which had 30k on and I got it for $20,000 and it got totaled on 10/25/02 and it waas NOT MY FAULT. Then I bought another one on 12/17/03 its a 99 Red SS loaded with all SLP options with only 17k on the odometer for $17 cuz I bought it in winter.
So if I were you this is the time to buy it, you'll save alot of money and try not buy a car that has over 25K cuz you never know what kind miles are they.

Best of Luck to You

I'd let mine go. Its a t-top appearance package red 99 z (the one with ground effects) .. with 24k.. I bought it with 16k, and my dad drove it up until 24k, because I lost my license in my lt1(my beater) a week after buying the car.. So I only got to drive it less than a month before court. I'd let it go for ~$18000 negot. .. It comes with a strange 12 bolt w/ 4.10's (33 spline, super posi, tcs, abs, expensive!!), bmr lca's, kyb shocks, eibach springs, white face guages, pro 5.0 short shifter. lid, hotchkis torque arm, driveshaft loop, hotchkis adjustable panhard rod bar, subframes, ram 402/980 pp and clutch, adjustable stock master cylinder, drill mod, throwout bearing, slp flywheel, spohn sway bar relocation, nittos, slp loudmouth (sounds god), dual guage pod w/ guages, 5" monster tach. Its pretty freakin sweet stock unmolested motor car I've never taken it to the track.. I'm really interested in a c5 when I get my license back (1 month).. I'm in no hurry to sell it.. just thought I'd inform you, in case you were interested.. springtime is only a few months away.. and prices get pretty jacked up around that time on sports cars.

^-- might have copy and paste and put a space after this on your link.

those wheels are chrome.. but I haven't washed them in over 3 weeks since in the past month its only got driven to keep it maintained so they are dirty. Clutch/pp is still in the process of being put in, so it will be fresh, with a new tranny (synchros are acting up, 2nd gear especially, 4th gear grinds occasionally). I am putting another one in it and selling the core.. There are very few things wrong with the car, but if your interested I can go over it with a fine tooth pick. I don't know of any scratches, etc.. but I'm having some chipping repaired on the backside of the front ground effects piece in front of the front tire. The car has a little gear whine at about 55 cruising at ~2500 rpm. Let me know if your interested, and want more info.

Thumbs up

Generally, lower mileage is better, but more importantly, did the previous owner(s) do the maintenance? Ask for receipts for oil changes, rear differential fluid changes (should be done every 15k miles). Did they use synthetic or regular oil? How hard was the car driven. F bodies have a bad reputation for reliability because a lot of owners "drive 'em hard and put 'em away wet". Also, generally, a 1 owner car is perferable to a 2 owner car. With LS1's only being our since 98, I would avoid any that's had more than 2 owners.

Cool

Also high miles don't count as much when they are highway miles!Good luck man,I bought my 1998 Z last Feb with 39k miles for $14,500 and it's ran like a champ ever since! (knock on wood)

Being on my 3rd LS1, the 30k mark is the absolute peak for these motors in my opinion. The motors dont even breathe til 10k, 15k is a little better, but at like 25-30k miles, these bad boys start lettin loose. I would recommend gettin one right at the 30k mark, which is where most of them are anyway. I can definitely tell that the 02 is the fastest of any ive driven before (98,00,02)...just to let you know, even though most likely there wont be any with those miles on it.
