LS1 basic mods

Stock LS1 Maf (de-screened) whats are the gains worth?

largest Maf and throttle body fitted on an LS1 intake manifold without mods ie porting?

160* stat on a stock LS1 with HPP 3 to tune the fan ok or no? (lid K&N, 3" y-pipe,SLP LM1, California daily driver car)

free ram air mod....worth it or no? (lower air box and baffle cut)

thanks everyone.

Stock LS1 Maf (de-screened) whats are the gains worth? Not worth it.

largest Maf and throttle body fitted on an LS1 intake manifold without mods ie porting? I think 90 mm

160* stat on a stock LS1 with HPP 3 to tune the fan ok or no? (lid K&N, 3" y-pipe,SLP LM1, California daily driver car) Should be OK

free ram air mod....worth it or no? (lower air box and baffle cut) Absolutely worth it

can I retune the fan to come on a little sooner without switching thermos? stock is 195? and fan is somewhere around 215? if it comes on around 200 will it be ok.

Yes but in the warm climate it'll run almost all the time.

I would also do the throttle body coolant bypass, K&N (or similar) air filter, & a better flowing muffler if you're still running stock.

Leave the MAF alone. Descreening causes problems.

The best throttle body for the stock LS1 intake is a ported stock throttle body. No need to port the intake. Don't waste your money on aftermarket.

Thermostat and K&N is good. The HHP3 is junk. For the same price you can get a custom tune which is safer and yields more power. And whatever you do, avoid the Loudmouth at all costs.

Free ram-air is definitely worth it!

You should include an airbox lid in your list.

I have 2 maf's one is stock on the car and the other one is a descreened maf from a T/A just a thought on how it would be to have it put on so far its negative on that.

I figured porting the throttle body for now would be ok. it seems to be the cheapest alternative. if not Ill go with a FAST setup of some sort.

I got the HPP3 for cheap of the retail cost so I'm not complaining for right now.
mods are listed as what I have on the car right now outside of the suspension where most of the money have gone.
(G2 lid, K&N Filter, 3" y-pipe, SLP LM1 current mods)

and Free Ram Air is a go just got it done last night lol it seems the most logical.

what is the average cost of installing a cam? I have no expeirience in that department so I dont wanna risk it I have a GM hot cam that I purchased with aftemarket rockers best bang for the buck? it just has to be streetable...looking to carve corners so power isn't all I'm chasing after but usable power in any form would be nice

The cam, with all required valvetrain upgrade like springs, retainers, locks, and pushrods along with the labor, gaskets, fluids, and mandatory tune will usually end up around $1200-$1500. Don't even think about a cam swap without addressing other things like headers, gearing, etc.

Stock rockers only!

ok understood gonna be taking care of the other little things soon. Have a set of JBA shorties that just came in need some cats already have 3.73 gears need to get a torque converter and gonna be porting the TB this weekend so I just wanted the next logical step still looking for an LS6 intake mani. but cam would be next.

I understand that you're in CA, and emissions regulations limit you're options. But shorty headers are not much better, if any, than the stock manifolds.

well I had a talk with a few people including the guys at Camaro Performers and they said any freeing of the exhaust would help even if its a little.

Now if you had a 98-99 then you could get gains from shorties as the older manifolds weren't great.

But the manifolds on a 2000 are very good from the factory. There's little to no gain from shorties. Why waste your money there, spend it elsewhere.
