I vote headers. Gears cost about $200 plus $100 for an install kit. The the installs range from about $300 to $500. So the headers are alot cheaper. Youcould save $200 by installing them yourself. Its REALLY easy on an LS1.

Installing LTs on an LS1 easy?!? That is the exact opposite from what I've heard. If you just have jack stands, how do you get them in there. Don't you have to put the headers in almost completely vertically?

I did it on my old LT1 and it sucked more *** than I thought possible. Then i did it on the LS1 I own now (didn't then) and it was a piece of cake. Very simple and straight forward. Only thing that sucked was reinstalling that bracket above the oil filter after the drivers side header in. Thats all. Personally i thought it was very easy. It might be because I work in a very cramped cockpit of a bomber that requires much skill to do.....

I'm gonna go against the crowd on this one and say gears first. The 2.73's and that TCI 3500 in your sig are probably a little loose around town. The gears won't gain you the horses like LT's but they will tighten that car up nicely for around town driving.

But if your not bothered at all with the stall/gear combo you got now as far as looseness goes then I say sure go get some headers first.

Good Luck

Both! I just ordered flowtech long tubes and a 3.73 gear kit (3.73s, T/A cover & bolts, complete install kit, redline fluid and additive). Cost $903 plus install and some computer work (AIR, EGR delete and speedo calibration). But i have a hookup on the install and tune Plus im getting true duals while im at it

I'll add a touch of personal experience here:

Get the headers .

I had 3.73's in my car last year and I actually didn't like them as much as I thought I would for daily driving. The shift points seemed to be all in the wrong place (especially for highway driving) and suddenly I realized that my TIRES were crap, so really, if you're gonna get gears, you'll also need really good, sticky tires! Not to say that the 3.73's didn't offer neck-snapping acceleration off the line, but that's about the only time I liked them. For average driving, I actually like my 2.73's better:blah:.

SO, I say go for the headers. Pretty much any long tube will gain you between 20 - 30 HP (right? ) that's power you should be able to feel, as well as hear.

Longtubes over gears. Its a more useful mod in the long run b/c when u do cam heads intake it will be more beneficial especially with a cam in the future. Gears will raise your low end but kill your top end and gas mileage.

If your concerned with ETs get a stall.
