LIGHTS OFF?
I have a 2000 SS and I am taking it to the track--I've never raced it with lights off--how can I get the lights off--and still leave parking lights on--is there a fuse to pull or do I have to dis-connect the headlamps? Thanks

I had a '98 Z28 and had to drive onto a military base everyday and the guards HATED that I couldn't turn my headlights off. What I found out is that if you lift the park brake handle just one click (not even close to engaged) before starting the car the lights will not automatically come on but can be operated with the switch. I drove to work every morning with my brake handle up one click so I could turn my headlights off while going through the gate. I hate that auto feature but don't know of a way to disable it besides what I did with mine. Kind of lame but it worked real well. I now have an '02 and it works on it too. Good luck. Later.........Brent

Easy fix!
First, you know where the little red LED is on the dash for the security system is, right? The light sensor is next to the LED.
Pop off the plastic defrost vent. Unplug the sensor from the wiring harness. (Sensor is a little black dome)
Stick a piece of wire in the socket, making a connection between the two contacts.
Tape it up so the wire doesn't fall out.
Stick the sensor back in it's stock location and lay the wire down in the dash.
Put the grill back in place.
DONE! Takes 5 minutes.
Your DRL will still work, but your headlights will not come on until you manually turn them on with the dash switch.

question:
I heard that dash piece was glued on there like no tomorrow - well, super sci-fi Nasa strong Velcro @ any rate !
So, is there a trick to popping that up ?
I dunno why they don't put a headlight override in the cars like the trucks get.
Thanks !!

The top part of the dash is only held on by clips. There's no velcor or glue under it at all.Simply pry up CAREFULLY and it'll pop off.Good luck.

What I'm going to do is install a auto headlight override switch.
Haven't done it yet but this is what I'm going to do:
Remove the Camaro emblem from above the radio. There are switch cutouts behind it. I'll then get a foglight switch from the dealer and mount it upside down next to the ASR switch (kind of makes it look like the DRL symbol and keeps it different from the foglight switch).
I'll then splice wires into the photosensor on the top of the dash and run it to the switch. When you flip the switch, it shorts the circuit and makes the ECU think it's bright outside. Also I'll wire it in so when the auto headlights is activated, the switch will light up.
Sound like a good idea to you guys?

Personally, I like to keep everything as non-cluttered and as close to stock as possible. But, if visible extra switches don't bother you, go for it.
