Question Lid or K&N FIPK???

Which is a better performance mod, the hi-flow lid (any brand) or the new K&N FIPK which replaces the whole airbox with just a simple oval filter? Which works better with a ram air hood?

Actually the difference between the two is fairly significant .... a lid will get between 10-12 rwhp. The FIPK will get at least 18 and typically more. Personally I got 22 rwhp with an FIPK.

An FIPK would be a good match with a ram air hood.

Good Luck

I agree. I've got a lid and FTRA as well but I have read that the FIPK gives the biggest gains. It's only drawback is that it does not look stock.

..I also heard that with out a ram air hood it will suck up hat air from in the engine bay. Although it is known that some people would remove the windshield washer bottle so it will suck up a hugs amount of fresh air.

????????:confused

So will a lid ... as long as the car is static, once in motion, the FIPK, a lid and the stock intake, for that matter, all source fresh air the same way.

Take out the shroud too and it is considerably more effective than the !FRA or even a FTRA, especially when the car is static. Instead of trying to pull air though a 2 inch wide slot between the radiators, you have an area about 18 by 24 inches right in front of the intake.

Good Luck

...like I said, that's what I heard, but then again you never believe what you hear sometimes. Although you could seal the air box only for the fresh air to come from below.

...all I know is that I like my lid, what I'm working on this winter is I'm building a custom intake. I'm having 2 tubes come from the 2 useless holes (not holes stock but I will cut out) in the nose of the car and I'm gonna cut 2 3.5 inch holes in my FTRA, weld it up and have nice fresh air added to my FTRA. I'll post pick when done.

...Cheers

You might check out the Stealth air box assembly. I picked up 16 hp and 24 pds of torque. Kinda pricey but it opens the entire filter surface up for air flow.

ram air with FIPK yeilds phenomenal boost. I have never dynoed the car, but holy **** I felt a difference, i did both mods together. Feels like I got at least 25 horse out of it. The FIPK also makes the car sound alot throatier.

but doesn't FIPK run the risk of getting water in the engine? or too much dirt since it's so exposed? I want one, too but am worried about that

No more so than the stock air box or a lid ... since any dirt or water would have to travel the same path for either system to make it's way to the intake.

Now if you open up the bottom of an airbox with the !FRA mod or something like a FTRA, then yes. You've now exposed the intake directly to the road and in the case of a sealed FTRA that becomes the soul source of air. There have been several cases documented on the boards where someone has hyrdrolocked thier engine with these mods.

Likewise with the FIPK, if you drop the the cleaner fluid bottle and the shroud, the intake becomes exposed to debris and water on the road surface. Though probably less so than with an FTRA.

Good Luck
