Installing Flowmaster muffler...
 

This post is not about Flowmaster performance. I do have a question about installing one. I am looking at the 80 series, of course. Specifically Flowmaster part#42583 2.5"in,dual 2.5"out. My question is installing it. Is it as easy as cutting the old muffler out with a sawsall, installing the muffler in it's place, and welding it in? I took some measurements of the stock muffler. I appears to be an inch or two larger than the Flowmaster. Any help would be appreciated.

2.5" inlet would be a restriction...

the stock inlet size is 2.75"....so a better choice would be the 3" inlet/dual 2.5" outlet

I put on the whole cat back system from flowmaster, even made the mistake using their clamps till i could get it to a shop to weld it. After putting it back on...the actual muffler wasnt hard to change. But I'd suggest using your own tips. The ones they supplied had a nice stamping of flowmaster, but one was about 1 1/2" to 2" longer than the other. But once broke in...BEAUTIFUL sound, nice choice!

Not to flame but a Flowmaster doesn't break-in.

And a 2.5" inlet is what you need not 3". The stock int. pipe is 2.75" but it reduces to 2.5 at the muller. If to are allready using a Flowmaster the restriction of the inlet wont matter. Going with a 3" inlet will make installing it that much more of a pain. Unless you don't mind using 2 feet of wire to weld the gap.

You are correct. I just got a set of calipers out and measured. It's 2.5" inlet to muffler, 2.5" outlet. Thanks much.
