if these cars have piston slap from factory why isnt there a recall?

shouldnt there be some sort of recall or extended warranty included for this bs?

i think it is under warrnaty since i remember some gys going and getting new engines from the dealer
but, money is probably the main factor
it takes a lot of money to do a recall, and plus, there is no real problem with it except it's annoying
some people will live with it (like a lot of camaro/formula,t/a owners do)but yea, gm likes their money:cool:

GM will extend your warranty if you bitch enough.

as i said in your other post dont worry about it.:D

The ones I've heard about getting replaced are ones that have excessive piston slap that doesn't go away when warmed up. The reason they are replaced is because it is so bad they bull the engine apart and mic the bores and find them out of spec so they replace the engine.

Mien has it when it is cold. How come the vettes don't have it??

I guess I'm a lucky one. No piston slap or excessive oil consumption at all. My car has 59K on the clock so it's no spring chicken anymore either. However I did buy mine used at a dealership so for all I know the original owner may have had piston slap and had it fixed under warranty.

Either way I count my blessings. Even in the dead of a Chicago winter I have no piston slap. Hmm that is a good question about the LS1 vettes. Do vettes not have any piston slap? What about the new GTO's?

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but usually when a manufacturer makes a recall, it is due to a defect which affects the safety of the occupants of the car.

What are the chances of engine blowing up due to piston slap and causing a safety hazard...

i have very light piston slap, nothing to worry about for me. just to let you know my northstar camaro club in mpls toured tpis speed shop last jan and they had a vette ls1 rebuilt with over 450 hp flywheel that when they started it on the dyno, it had plenty of slap until they revved it! how sweet it was!

redzsmoked212 04-08-2004 03:54 PM

vettes not having piston slap? who started spreading this rumor?
they got the same motors of course they have piston slap when there cold the thing about vettes are people usually keep the miles down a lot less than your classic f-body.the more your motor gets worked/miles put on it the worse that piston slap will get and yes its pretty damn annoying..

anasazi 04-08-2004 04:06 PM

my 1999 camaro SS sounds like a friggin diesel in the mornings until its up to operating temperature

just rolled over 43k miles too

AJ1978TA 04-08-2004 07:42 PM

Why aren't '98 cars included? Is there a difference?

redzsmoked212 04-08-2004 07:47 PM

who said 98 isnt included? of course those are included i dont see why they wouldnt be!

SheDevlLS1 04-08-2004 07:51 PM

Mine is HORRIBLE...it's been noticible since I drove the car off the lot the day I bought it brand new, but the local dealer wouldnt do **** about it so I've let it be...
Even when warmed up it's still loud as hell, and it sounds aweful.
