I need help with HEADERS!

i know there has been a crap load of threads about headers in the past week, but nothing on how to install them. I obviously know where they go and i have the tools and shop. But does anyone have any suggestions or directions on how to install them successfully and least painful? I checked out install university and got nothing off of that. The headers i got are either Hooker or QTP if that matters. Thanks!

I installed JetHot's a few weeks ago.

First off get some new stock replacement header gaskets, spark plugs, 24 inch or longer O2 extensions and change the oil at the same time.

Second after getting the manifiolds off, you might want to grind down the drivers side K-member just to be safe.

Take off your oil filter and the pickup (2 bolts) for the drivers side.

Take out the 4 bolts holding the motor mount, do one side at a time.

Take out the steering column.

Jack up engine a little, slide them in.

It help if you have 2 people, but can be done alone.

It took us 8 1/2 hrs total ( 2 nights after work) w/ the removal of the catback.

Hope this isn't to confusing.

Let me know if you have anymore ???

I just did my JetHots this past weekend too and I agree with MOST of what Drew778/94Z just said. With the exception of the whole taking out the motor mounts and jacking up the motor. I didnt have to and dont think you would either unless your car is lowered or something. I also didnt take out my steering column either though. To get the drivers side in I took off the oil filter and oil pickup, and the little heat shield under there. I also had to take the #3, 5, and 7 plugs (I was replacing them and had already put the new ones back in.. bad move). After that the header slid most of the way in, then a few whacks with a rubber mallet and it was in. Passengers side was even easier, just took off the long heat shield from that side and did a little twisting... header slid straight in no problems.

My JetHots fit great.. no k-member problems, or any of that. I do have some rubbing under the car on the y-pipe which I have not totally located yet.. but other than that it is great.

If yours goes "as easy" as mine you will probably be eventing new cuss words before it is all said and done. LOL. The sliding the headers in part ended up being easy after I removed that stuff, but the over all feel of the install was NOT easy. Just remember what everyone says on here time and time again.. take your time.. dont get discouraged.. and take a few breaks. Oh, and make SURE you have LOTS of extensions. There were times when I had a 9", 6", 3", 3", 3" combination just to reach a bolt. Oh and you need a "j" joint or swivel joint whatever you want to call it.

Good luck with the install thought!!
