A few weeks ago i blew the motor in my lil bro's car on my way to the body shop so we bought a used motor that had 21k on the clock. we finished installing it yesterday and ran it and it got hot and was low on coolant. today we put more coolant in it and tested it and its still getting hot. its smoking from the tailpipes and is making water. we bought a bare motor out of an 02 SS and used everything off my bro's car like the starter, water pump, alt, ac compressor and tensioners. also the water temp gauge drops off and codes 118. we clear the code and it goes back to work.

What can we do to fix this? we are thinking thermostat or a bad head.

It turns out that the heads and the thermostat were fine. The problem was a craked block in the number 4 cylinder.
