Header install question
 

Do any of you guys and gals use loctite on your header bolts?If so, which grade of loctite do you use?I am going to be installing my new headers and exhaust this weekend (weather permitting) and thought this might be a good idea so I won't have to worry about the header bolts comming loose.

If you happen to have some loctite, why not? I didn't use it, and I haven't had any bolts back out. I have read of plenty of people having their header bolts back out, so if you are worried about it why not use it? I reused the stock bolts. Most importantly: DO NOT cross thread header bolts and watch out for gasket material being caught up in bolt. Happened to me. Used Air Pump bolt in place of header as it's shorter and the gasket material didn't seem to screw up threads in header bolt until way far down in the threads. Air pump bolts going into exhaust manifolds are the same threads but shorter so it saved me.

I wouldn't use locktite, the bolts on there own can seize up in the heads as the bolts are steel and the heads are aluminum. I haven't had to retigten mine since my install, and I checked them once a month. As a matter of fact I used anti-seize compound on my bolts and they haven't come loose. I figure its much easier to tighten a bolt than have one break off inside the head cause they got stuck, when you need to change the gasket. I used the stock steel gaskets as well and they seal great-even though they loked pretty bad.

Even if you snap a bolt, you can still get the headers off. :eek:

i definitly would NOT use loctite on the bolts
