going to pull engine. need advice please
Never done this on an LS1. Is it a bitch to do? Will it come out of the top? I'm not looking foward to this:cry:

Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
i've seen pictures of it coming out from the top, but it was DAMN SNUG coming out. most people drop the k member and take it out from the bottom...you need to make some custom jack stands to get the car to sit high enough tho

Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
Out the bottom is the way to go. And you don't pull the K-member then the motor. You pull the K-member with the motor on it.
There are some on line guides that I've heard of but I don't know where they are. |

Would be easier to do w/ a lift, I immagine. Disconnect everything, then raise the lift and the engine SHOULD stay on the cribbing..

Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
Personally Ive never dropped it out of the bottom. Ive always done it through the top, and once without even taking the hood off. Through the top the must have tool is the engine tilter, otherwise it aint gonna happen.

Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
Mine was removed through the top without using a tilter.

Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
I have done it both ways through the top and bottom. I have done 5 total first one through the top and the rest through the bottom. Bottom is the way to go.

Dropping it out of the bottom is slick, but you need a car lift. W/o a lift, you gotta pull it out of the top, remove the hood.
I did it by dropping it out of the bottom, using a car lift at a friend's car shop. The car tied up the lift for 5 days. Fortunately, he operates a 3 bay shop. |
Re: going to pull engine. need advice please
You don't have to have a lift for out the bottom removal. You can put the rear axle up on large jackstands or crib up under the rear tires then lift the front with a chain fall or engine hoist (cherry picker). Buddy in GR has done it this way half a dozen times. If you do a web search I'm sure that you can find a link to his writeup.
