First time at the track.
First time at the track.
I went to the Lake Cumberland Dragway in Russel Springs, KY today on the Somernights Cruise "Fun Run". It was my first time to a real dragstrip ever. I ran my best on the first run which went as the following:
.899 reaction time
2.151 60 ft
5.886 330 ft
8.308 ET @ 594 ft
8.849 1/8 @ 83.18 mph
The rest of my runs were all 9.1-9.2 with the exception of one 11.4 run where I killed it off the line.
I'll get better and more consistent when I get more practice. I'm gonna try to go to the London Dragway next weekend and run a full 1/4, hopefully I'll do a little better with a full 1/4.

not bad.. i just looked at a timeslip next to my computer here..
it says
5.853
8.811@83.61
13.449@106.35
so mid 13's at least.. but I would expect more with your power or you are at a higher elevation...

13.4? My bone stock MACh1 ran a 13.1 my first and last time at the track. And that was with stock rubber too. The Cobras are running in mid to low 12's and the SS is suppost to be the same. 13.4 is about what the GT's run. With 338 rwhp, you should be, at least, in the high 12's. So yeah, I'd say you need a little more pratice.

Cobras are running mid 11s with paper tags, aren't they? Straight from the dealer to the dragstrip.
Hell, my '91 mustang 5.0 ran 13.3 @103, stock...
that's how it's supposed to be...

Yes, with 338 rwhp he should have a 12 second car, and he probably just needs some more practice until he gets there.
You need to get your facts straight, though.
I'm confident my car is capable of high 12's in the 1/4. I just need to get more experiance at the track. My 8.8 sec run was with me hitting the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gear. I had too much adrenaline running and couldn't concentrate on my shifting. I'm assuming that will eventually go away with practice. I really need to work on that .899 reaction time too.
ChrisLS1Bird, Cobras do not run 11's off the show room floor. Look at your own numbers.
Free Mods, Lid, Cat-Back: 323rwhp/333rwtq
bests: ET 12.64 (1.83) MPH: 111.44
Now lets assume %15 drivetran loss of HP. So take 323 * .15= 48.45. 323 + 48.45= 371.45 hp at the crank. Now with 371 hp you ran a 12.6. You think a Cobra with 19 more horsepower is going to run .74 sec's faster in the quater mile. Yeah right.

I'm just screwing with you man...because you're...special.
Tailwind did a good job explaining things, didn't he?
But I do need to ask you where you learned mathematics. You have taken 15% of my rwhp...and added it back to find my crankshaft HP. Don't you see the funny logic behind that? You explicitly say, "assume %15 drivetran loss of HP." That would mean 15% of my engine (crankshaft) HP is lost in the drivetrain..not 15% of my rear wheel HP is lost in my drivetrain.
What's 15% of 100? What's 15% of 200? I'll give you a hint...15% of 100 is less than 15% of 200. If I make more HP at the crankshaft than I do at the rear wheels, then 15% of my crankshaft HP is greater than 15% of my RWHP. (FYI)
I'll help you out and teach you how to solve this. Just memorize this for future use: RWHP/(1-[% drivetrain loss])=Engine HP. 323/.85 = 380
We won't even get into discussing 60', race weight, torque, gearing, dyno accuracy, and '03 Cobra dyno figures.

. BTW, good dyno #'s too!
