Fastest Streetable LS1s?
Fastest Streetable LS1s?
Hey guys...wondering what the fastest streetable LS1s were running. Looking for some evidence to show a friend that this almighty DSM that runs 9.0 or 9.3 or something can be beaten. Granted this car has AWD and was running I think slicks on all four corners so without slicks/AWD he would be much slower. I am just looking for some cars comparable to these times in street trim. Anything?
no streetable ls1 will beat john shepards dsm.... PERIOD.. his is a daily driver (driven around the block 3 days a week lol) and runs 9.08 with a 1.4 60 footer
he was the main reason i got the dsm......
to bad i'm selling it for that nice thing ppl call heads/cam/rear/clutch

That's the one. Is this guy like God or something?
Yeah...not entirely streetable... Looks like you're headed in the right direction though!
I like it! What kind of Camaro do you have Red91TSI? What heads/cam/rear/clutch are you getting? Yeah, I'm jealous of you.

streetable is a pretty vauge word... Basically means it can be taken out around the block a few times, maybe down to the gas station and back... anything else is questionable..
I'm more impressed with MTI's Z07 Vette that won 2003 One Lap of America.. 7 liters + nitrous, driven across country and roadraced, in both dry and wet conditions.. It might not run 9's (but most likely it'll hit low 10's without trying too hard) but its a proven reliable setup..
That DSM still is impressive though.

LS1 are impressive for what they are, Its all about what you want. If you want all out drag speed get a bike or a dsm. If you like low rpm torque, lots up top, etc... Stick to the ls1. And if your lookin for just bragin rights you can always bring up Lingenfelter 427 TT Corvette that ran 8.9 in the 1/4 mile and its based off the engine you got...
Anyways this is a video that i though fit into this discussion check it out here http://www.turbochargers.com/race6.wmv

beating the 9's ls1
i dont know about the ls1, but chevy itself made a beefed up zl1 (2002) pulled the ls6 and threw in a 502 bb. as is ran 9.74@149. 770hp. look on kaaza.com under zl1 for a decent clip. with nitrous and other unnamed mods, i assume blower, ran in the high 8's. without slicks. similar car was sold as factory original, with $3000. factory rebate $52k i think. tomhenryracing.com, dealer specializing in ss's, b4c, zl1 and pro mod z28 and t-a's. search the media sites for some good racing clips in general, sadly they show a z28 getting smoked by a 1984 dodge caravan. yes, its true. it has twin turbo and probably nos.

Yes I have seen that ZL1. Here is a link:

It is a nasty car, but it is N/A...no nitrous or other power adders. I have the video of the car running 9.55 @ 144.3mph.
I have also seen that video of the caravan beating the Z28. All my friends (not-so Chevy lovers) make fun of me for it, but all I say is, hey you're racing the clock, not the guy next to you. There are plentyyyyy of Mustangs and imports that would be in the same situation when put next to that thing...if you can even give it a name...

What does streetable mean, you can drive it on the street, how long, a block?
I was able to drive my 11.02 422ci car 400 miles in one day on pump gas.
There are some high 9 second cars with nitrous that were a tire change away from doing the same thing.
That ZL1 car has gone 9.40's this year. They have two transmissions for that car. I don't consider it a street car I'm sure it's like 13:1 or 14:1.

DSM = Diamond Star Motors. It refers to the time when Mitsubishi (Diamond) and Chrysler (Star) were basically putting out some ot the same cars just badged differntly (case in point the Eagle Talon, Mitsubishi Eclipse and Plymout Laser. There were a few others like the Dodge Stealth and the Mitsu 3000gt, anywho).
...oh that DMS. Those bastards. Speaking of those guys, i got smoked by one from 50-120. I had him for about 2 seconds then he flew by me. Talked to him at the exit and his car only had a seat in it, nothing else (plus a bigger turbo). it was a 1st gen talon.
