problem with 2000 Z28 wont go over 20 MPH

I was driving at about 70 MPH on the freeway and the car started acting like it was out of gass but I had 1/4 tank. I pulled off to the shoulder and put it in park, it idled fine and reved good so I put it in drive and I had to punch it to get going cuz of traffic but the car just boged down and would not go over 20 MPH i stayed on the gas but it died.

If you ease into the gas, it will go faster but if you floor it it dies.

Any idea? I have it at the dealer hope in covered under my extended waranty

Thanks, jason

Almost sounds like the fuel pump went south....

Thinking FP too - whatever it is should be covered with an extended warranty. Was the SES light flashing like a Christmas tree?

no light at that time. It was on for a while cuz of a O2 but it has gone off and stayed off for a few days.

Could it be a transmission problem or torque converter?

Hope its not the MAF cuz I have those larger blue MAF ends and I dont have the stock ones.

Thanks, Jason

With the O2 having gone south, it could also be a clogged catalytic converter.

When did you change the fuel filter. Could be that your fuel filter is not flowing enough to get you up to a good speed. Was the o2 code for the front or rear o2s?

If we were betting that's where my money would go. That's exactly how a car with broken catyalist will act and if that's it and it has under 80k miles on it, it will be covered by the emmisions warrantee not your extended warantee.

Re: problem with 2000 Z28 wont go over 20 MPH

Just got a call from the dealer. It was a dirty MAF sensor.

That and my trans mount was broke. I was wondering what banging noise was when I hit the gas.

$17.00 to clean it and $68 to find out it was dirty

I wish I thought about it before I had it towed in cuz my mothers car was doing the same thing and I cleaned hers and it was fin after that. She has a 2000 Celica

Thanks, jason

don't oil your K&N so much.

that's most likely why it was dirty.

Re: problem with 2000 Z28 wont go over 20 MPH

my oil pump went out and i was able to go as fast as i wanted but it sounded absolutely HORIBLE. The pump just quit and quit pumping. but im not sure what was making it only go up to 20. all i know is that im getting my whole engine rebuilt adding some more HP into it (: hehe. but yea when that happens you need to get it checked out immediately cause if you wait to long then your engine is screwed! and its just gunna cost up a storm. hopefully you got it fixed
