Edelbrock Headers??

Hello, i am thinking of getting some edelbrock shorty headers. They are supposed to flow better then the stock manifolds. But, under application it says for 2000-2002? The headers themselves are cheap only 353.99 But i am just woundering why it wont work on my 98 SS? I didnt think that there was any difference between my 98SS and a 2000 SS? I know in 2001 the LS-1 got the LS6 manifold and got rid of the egr, and the manifold style changed, but other then that i am not aware of any emissions changes to our cars. Could someone please clarify? The only reason i am concidering these headers is because they are supposed to be emissions legal. It says that they are a direct replacement for my stock manifolds. the part number that jegs has listed is 350-65730 Any help would be appreciated..thanks guys:bow:

Before this gets too out of hand I'm just going to step up and tell you that changing your stock manifolds out for some shorties is just about useless. At most you will gain maybe 5hp. 5hp for $350 isn't that great of a deal and the pain it takes to change those things... the thought of going through what it took to get my headers on again and only getting 5 hp out of it makes me sick. I'm assuming the reason you want to get the shorties is because you have to test for emmisions where you live. If that's not the case then just get some Hooker long tubes, they're 400 bucks for uncoated and you'll get a lot more hp out of them.

As far as the whole emission changes 01-02 cars do not have an EGR system and the flanges on the exhaust manifolds are turned the opposite direction. You can make the 01-02 manifolds work but you'll need to bend the AIR tubes to make them fit.

ok so there useless...lol well it always pays to ask i guess. Yes the reason why i am looking at these is because i need to stay emissions legal. Are there anyother emissions legal headers for around 400 bones? Thanks

They are only usless to someone that can bypass the emmissions laws and run long tubes.
On a 98 or a 99 shorties are worth around 8-9 hp at the wheels. On an 00-02 it's only about 5hp.
If you use shorties for a 2000-02 on your 98 then you'll have to spend more money to get a y-pipe too (It's totally different) as well as the late model style air tubes.
Hooker has some shorties too and I think they have a direct fit for the 98-99 car.

The exhaust manifolds changed in 2000 along with the AIR tubes. The intake changed in 2001 and deleted the EGR.

Well, i have a slp Y pipe if that counts for anything. I heard that JBA headers are emissions legal? Does anyone have a link for them? So if i go to summit or something they should have the hooker shorties right? I am not looking for a big project with the headers. Such as turning around the air tubes and what not..that will prob cost me out the arse ne way. So hooker has some you say? Could you please provide a link? thank you:bow:
