Post E-brake felt like it broke

Tonight I parked my car and when i went to pull up the Parking/Emergency brake, it went completely vertical without any resistance. I let it back down and when I pulled it up again the second time, it was fine. Did this ever happen to anyone??

I've never chased down the problem but have had this happen many times on many, many different f-bods. It just seems to be "one of those things".

Same thing happened to me immediately after my rear end swap. Thought the shop forgot to hook it up. Tried it again and it's been working fine ever since.

Cool

My '95 did it also,I "think" it's the little weight thingy that helps apply the brakes when the cable is pulled.I know that after I swapped my V6 rear drums for discs it started doing it.I lubed the little weight thingies and it stopped for a while.Maybe it gets hung or something and puts slack in the cable? By the way,I hope no one got confused by my technical jargon

yep, same bs happens to me too sometimes. I hate it cause when I have a passsanger on the car it looks cheap and it can be embarrasing. GM puts great motors in these cars but skimped on MANY "little" quality things. I have driven the snot out of my 98 and have never had any mechanical problems, but I have had numerous little things break such as the ash tray cover, the e-brake handle you mentioned, speaker went out, broken seat belt straps, etc etc.....

It happens to me every once in awhile too. It's probably happened about 10 times in the 4 years I've had the car.

I know in the 3rd Gen Camaros it did that by design. It was made to release so that you could get the consol off or do maintenance on the E-Brake system. I don't remember what is was that made it do that, but it even said in the manual and the service manuals that is was by design on that car. Maybe it's carried over into the 4th gen too?

Cool

I wouldn't worry about it. it has happened to me as well, but its so you dont break the cable is all. it only happenss when you put the parking brake on when your still heavy on the brake pedal.
