Dyno a SS?
 

I have a question about dyno results on a car with a Ram Air/Cold Air modification. If the car has to be moving to realize the ‘ram air’ effect, how do you accurately measure this effect on a dynamometer? And wouldn’t the resulting horsepower depend on the speed of the vehicle?

You Dyno them the same way you dyno anything else. So no, you do not get to see the results of the ram air effect (if there is any). There has been much debate as to weather the SS hood actualy adds any HP. The general concensus is that if there is any additional HP, its small. On a dyno, a z28, an SS, a T/A or Formula, and WS6 will all dyno about the same. Some z28's are higher than some SS's and vice versa (all very close though). Two ways I could think of to test the effectiveness of the hood - Get a dyno in a wind tunnel and make runs at different air speeds or take the SS to the track and makes some runs and then tape off the scoop and make some runs and compare (mainly looking for higher trap speeds.

The Camaro SS does not travel fast enough for a ram air affect to occure. The SS and WS6 are more of a cold air induction. Taping off the openning will decrease speed and hp due to the added restriction of air flow. Westher moving or standing still, it doesn't matter. Form all that I've heard, ram air doesn't occur until 200mph. We have along way to go. :(

as most will say, the track is the best dyno.. the dynometer is good for getting an idea of what is going on.. shows curves and a/f ratios..
