The dreaded post!!!
Alright guys I hate to do this but I am racing my friend this weekend(best friend and at a 1/4 mile track of course). Mine is a 2000 ws6 convertible M6 with k&n filter and strut tower brace (if that helps at all). His is a 2000 z28 auto with lid and flowmaster. I figure I should get him, my ram aid should be as good as his lid and I heard flowmasters suck on these cars. But what worries me is the weight, I know I am heavier. I have driven an M6 for 5 years now so I can shift pretty well although I don't speed shift. Any opinions? I will let you guys know what heppens!

its gonna be CLOSE...he's gonna have a distinct advantage out of the hole. i'm sure you know it's pretty tough to launch an M6 on street tires.
also, your ram air isn't QUITE as effective as you think assuming it still has the baffles in it. it will help but not much. i suggest removing your air filter for that run.
since you have a 6 speed, you will have a slight advantage at the top end, though the weight will hurt you.
either way it's going to be him off the line and you trying to catch him up top. you might, you might not, but it's going to be close! good luck!

Actually I have brand new BF KDW's and they hook really well. I don't have too much trouble launching. Although I have not really tried too hard since I have only had this car for a week. Is there a way to remove the baffles form the ram air? Oh well if he wins it will be a new reason to buy parts! Thanks fo rthe reply!

Your buddy is going to beat you..........not by much, but I'm afraid my money is on the auto

yea they both ls1s, but each car runs different!
i spanked this SS 3 times back to back, he was an auto, and i have over 100lbsworth of speakers in my ride...
just go at it, take out spare tires, etc anything easily to be removed...

Yeah we will see what happens, I think he has nearly bald tires. He just got his first f-body about 3 months ago so he is still enjoying burnouts and hasn't realized the cost of tires! I think it will be close if I get a good launch it will help alot!

I've seen M6 LS1's run mid-high 13's at the track, same day as I've run low 13's. BUT, I've also witnessed my buddy run his bone-stock, '97 LT1 M6 to 13.7's / 13.8's and consistant 14.0's
. I've been in the car with him driving, and he shifts the 6-speed like I've never seen before........you would swear the car had an automatic in it
(and I thought I could shift our '73 quick!

Thanks, yeah I can shift fast as hell to but I don't really want to do that on a new car with stock clutch. I don't really know what these clutches can hold up to compared to the lt1 cars. I do have a hurst shifter with a custom made short throw stick that I made the dealer swap when I traded my 97 in. Those kdw tires are by far the best tire i have ever had. They are super sticky and I recommend them to everyone. The only thing I am worried about is the weight. I never wanted a convertible until I saw this one but oh well! Hey by any chance when you install longtubes do you have to remove the cats on these cars?

you can keep a longtube car fairly quiet with the right combo of high-flow cat's and a quiet catback. in general, LS1s are a little quieter than LT1s but do a get a little raspier and more high-pitched at high rpm.
i however, favor the wide-open, catless, bullet muffler only approach. maximum power, maximum "holy s**t" factor (a technical term) and a surprisingly quiet idle, with a LOT less rasp than you'd expect.

I'd be willing to bet that long-tubes going into a stock cat-back wouldn't be much louder (if any) than stock
