Difference between each year?
Difference between each year?
im saving up all winter for a trans am ... and i was wondering what was the differences they made on each year? from 98 to 99 ... 99 to 2000 and so on.... i no they upgraded some things on each year... i also heard that the 2000 and up have a LS6 manifold stock ... is this true?
Search will give you a fair amount of info on this one, but ...
'98 - bigger injectors, working temp gauge , 1st year LS1 in F body , possible oil pump issues , and different heads due to the valve cover mounting style (perimeter bolts ala the smallblocks of old )
'99 smaller injectors , non-working temp gauge - dummy 'til it gets close to an overheat situation
'00 cast iron logs for exhaust manifolds - prior years had header styles , and a new breather filter for the air pump , and
maybe a starter revision , and a cat revision that seems to cause driver's side cats to go out early
'01 LS6 intake ! , but w/ a weaker camshaft . Beginning of the piston slap issues , but no EGR.
'02 same as '01
Somewhere in the '01 model run I believe
there were some LS6 blocks sprinkled in the mix as well.
Here is some good browsing info for ya.
I'm sure people will jump in to correct any errors I have made, or to add additional info.
Hope this helps !
Britt

Re: Difference between each year?
lol ls6 intake can be had for about $300. You'll save way more than that by getting a 98-00 model and buying/installing the intake yourself.
Yes, there were some LS-6 blocks sprinkled in there due to a shortage of LS-1 blocks, and an overstock of ls-6 blocks. Really no way to tell on the car itself without checking the casting number. There was no power gain from having the block.

Re: Difference between each year?
10% of v8 fbodies in 2001 were LS6s
25% of v8 fbodies in 2002 had the LS6.
Remember though, its just the block alone, not the whole engine. Its not like you have a whole LS6.
