Did I make a good move?
I have been researching lids/cai for a week now and it drove me nuts. I narrowed it down to these two this morning.
1). tsp lid & ssra 2). FIPK I decided and went ahead and ordered the FIPK with the intention of removing my winshield washer fluid box and the plate below it for better air flow (FIPK FRA mod I believe). I based this decision on the basis that the dyno will show better gains with fipk because dynos can't measure ssra. I am wondering if this will hurt my low end torque? I read about how this mod is great except it runs hotter temps at a stop/idle or something like that but when you are moving it really gets going. I all ready lost a little low end torque with dynomouth and don't want to lose any more and become like a zombie off the line. I keep thinking I made the wrong choice but then again alot of people say 22hp gain is normal but will it cost me any power off the line? |
I didn't loose anything except traction.:D Don't worry about higher IAT's temps since I read a post the other day on someone with a lid and his IAT's were over 100 at idle on a 90 degree day according to his Autotap which is about the same as the fipk. Best mod I have done. How much did you pay for yours? I got mine for $259+ shipping.

Unfortunately I paid $300. I found it was the cheapest when I did a google search for FIPK with the specific PN attached. Later I found a place selling it for $259.99 but well after I all ready placed my order.

Well $300 isn't the highest price I have seen. Summit charges $329. :eek:

Personally, I would of gone with the Lid and SSRA. Not sure why, just seems like a better set-up.
But both would of been good choices :thumb: |
The first 100 feet, the FIPK will perform the same or slightly better than a lid & SSRA. But, I'd be willing to bet once you hit 2nd gear, the SSRA & lid combo will work much better...especially if you don't have a functional ram air hood. It's a proven fact that our cars run better on cooler air. Just ask the guys who designed the intercoolers for the procharger. Plus, when you seal the lid for the SSRA, you'll get a minor supercharging effect once you hit 4th gear. Ever stick your hand out the window @ 70mph? Imagine that force shoving cooler, outside air into your intake...compared to the FIPK getting the leftovers out of the engine bay. To me, this is a no brainer...

both SSRA and FPIK seem like they have their own advantages and disadvantages. while the FPIK shows more gain on dyno, I would agree that SSRA works better in real life (unless you had a ram air hood) However, I realize that water sucking into the engine is a now probability, I will be purchasing the FPIK when the time comes for me to replace my air box. Most engines run better on cooler air, but from the bottom of the car is not the place I want to get it. To each their own, don't think either system is bad.

The more I thought about it, the more I regretted my choice. I just don't like the idea of having to go all winter in chicago without windshieldwasher fluid :(
Plus when I looked at a picture of the FIPK installed it was for an LT1 and I thought it looked sweet. Then I saw a picture of the LS1 and wow it's not bad looking but I like the lid setup better. So I called LM performance and they told me it all ready shipped out. But after I explained my situation they took my order for the SSRA and said they have one left in stock and it will ship out today for me. They also said to return the FIPK after it arrives and they will wave the restocking fee and refund all my money minus the shipping fees. I am very happy with LM Performance and I am happier I think now with how my car will look and potentially perform. I also ordered a TSP lid from Brian. This is gonna be SWEET! I'll have to deal with the hassle of installing a block off plate on rainy days but all in all I think I'll be a lot happier. Thanks everyone and especially SSpdDmon (it was your post that swayed me back to the lid/ssra setup that I feel I should have gone with in the first place) |
