That damn mod bug...
You guys were right. It's time to start the mods. I managed my money to where I have a limit of $500 to spend. The problem is I have no clue what to do or where to begin. The car is brand new, 100% stock down to oil, filter, air filter, etc. What would/did you do first? Any help would be appreciated. Please be specific too (brand name, model #, etc.)
Thanks alot.
Thanks alot.
I just went to LS1Motorsports and a few other websites. I got the Mobil 1 oil & I'm gonna get their filter. Also a K&N Air filter and a lid... which one is better the LS1 Motorsports lid or the Whisper lid? These are both compatible with the K&N air filter, correct? I'm not looking to do anything major, just some minor bolt-ons.
Yes, definately go lid right away, that's a very wise decision, it's basically everyone's first mod. As far as which one, they're all about the same, so just go with the one you like. As you can see in my sig I went the MTI Clear lid (looks sweet as hell
) with a Holley Powershot filter, going against the crowd of K&N. Some people say the MTI Clear and the Holley don't fit right, but I didn't have any problems, just depends on the luck of the draw I guess. But yeah, if you've got $500, I highly recommend doing intake (lid, filter), opening up the exhaust (muffler does great job, gettin hi-flow cat's does great too but they're $350 a pop). That will get you an better breathing car. After that some suspension work would compliment the added power, LCAs are a nice place to start, they'll give some added traction. Some cheap and effective ways of transfering power though are a polyurethane tranny and torque arm mount. Lots of peole swear by these two things. But have fun with the mod bug, I caught it about a month ago
Future's looking bright too

So far:
LS1 MS Lid
K&N Filter
SLP 85mm Mass Airflow Sensor
(All 3 for $280)
Not sure about this, but SLP cold air induction for $130... How would that work with the others???
How much was your Dynomax Muffler & Where did you get it, How do you like it?
Thanks.

The Cold Air Insert sits below the air filter/intake housing. It's not a "bolt-on", as it will require some cutting of the base of the filter housing. What it does is take in cooler air from the low-pressure area in front of your radiator, letting your engine breathe just that much better. No, it won't greatly affect the airflow through the radiator, and keep in mind it won't do anything for horsepower in stop and go traffic. Gotta have air moving through the engine bay to be effective. Good luck, and spend wisely!

OK, I think this is the final order from ThunderRacing:
Performance Package
Whisper Air Induction Lid, K&N Filter, K&N Cleaning Kit & Breather Filter $189.99
SLP Loudmouth Cat-Back Exaust, 1998-2002 LS1 F-body, dual 3" tips each side $349.99
Does that sound good for the first Mods? How does the Loudmouth sound? Anybody who has it, was it easy to install or did you have to take it somewhere? Do the dual tips fit on the T/A? Thanks again.
EDIT: I was thinking, should i get the 3" dual tips on each side or the 3.5" single tips???

Your order looks good. Definately stay away from the MAF, they're right, people do get problems (that's why there's so many for sale in the For Sale section
) As far as exhaust, the LM is very loud, not much restriction in it. Gives decent power gain thanks to the little restriction. Personally I'd go muffler, but it's your $$$ so it's none of my business. BUT, since you WANT to go with the catback I'd personally go dual tips on both sides. I've had too many vehicles with a single-side exit- kind of sick of it
But yeah, good luck with the modding

What are the advantages of just getting a Muffler? Which dynomax muffler do you have? How does it sound? I want the car to be loud, but not vibrating my car loud. Just a nice loud, deep, muscle car sound.

Loudmouth came stock on my car so I can't help you much on the install. I can however tell you it sounds awesome. I thought it was a little loud when I first got the car, but I've since grown to love that deep low rumble. There is no vibration, and none of my neighbor's have complained to me about the noise in the morning (i leave earlier than anyone else). So it can't be that obnoxious. If you do go for the cat-backs get the dual-dual setup, it just makes the car look meaner. Oh, I have seen that setup on T/As so you should be fine. Good Luck.
