cut out?
bought my 98 A4 Z28 with K&N FIPK and some Flowmaster stickers. What kind of exhaust do I have. I asked the GM service to look at it and tell me what he thought and he said there was a straight pipe and no mufflers BUT it looked like professional work, quote " it's not like someone just hacked off the muffler " Any guesses as to what his is. It is very loud, actually at times interior wise too loud. I have chrome tips 3 1/2" and the CATS are still there. NO MUFFLER at all.

It could be straight pipes if you say it's really that loud.
It could also be a Loudmouth system, especially if it's kind of raspy. |
after the ypipe is there a resonator....
my guess is that its a loudmouth |
yea. I think so
there is a straight pipe out then it splits and on the passenger side there looks to be a resonator. the other pipe weaves towards the driverside then out to the tailpipe. I know it sounds crazy that I don't know what exhaust system and to top it off he has these Flowmaster stickers on the FIPK and on the rear windows. Thanks

do u know what a y pipe is????
how does it split???? does the driver side run header to exhaust tip or they meet at the ned of the y pipe which is right after where its smashed in on drivers side.....then seperates right after axle....... make sense????? |
YES, thats it...
NO, I'm less then novice here, BUT you described what I see with the drivers side pipe and it seems to be 'smashed then continues along to the tailpipe. I tought it was a Y-pipe but the Service tech described it as a stright pipe. And there is what looks like a resonator on the passenger side pipe. I seem to get more then enough backfire from this also. Especially whe I hit 50-60 mph and let off the throttle...Thanks for this info, I am just trying to understand what the previous owner put under there! The FIPK was self explanatory from view....
