Cut out?
Cut out?
My SES light came on, i got it checked out, mechanic said the catalytic converter is not functioning properly....can i get a cutout to put in place of my CC? and then can i get a chip to program the computer to think that the Converter is still on there? i suck with exhaust questions, and im thinking about selling my car in spring so i dont want to dump a ton of money into brand new exhaust and headers. BTW, i have a 2000 camaro SS, pretty much stock.
thanks

You can get an aftermarket cat for well under a 100 bucks. By the time you by a cutout and either have the PCM tuned or install an O2 simulator on that particular bank, you are nearing the same cost of a replacement cat. Not to mention, if you do plan on selling the car, you might have a hard time when you have a dual catted y-pipe with one functioning cat and a cutout in place of the other cat. Furthermore, in that certain area, the cutout may cause more cabin drone and vibrations.
it would be a bad idea to put just one cutout in place of one cat
and depending on which cat it is...it's nearly impossible. the driverside cat bolts directly to the manifold...not an easy place to install a cutout.

I've got two free flow cats that I got from Summit for $59 each. They have 3" inlet and outlet. I didn't end up using cats when I just had my exhaust done so I'm going to sell them. They were $118 for the pair but I'll sell them to you for $100. They've never been installed. PM me if you are interested.
