Post Corsa and Y Pipe

I just bought my 99 Trans am and I am going to order a corsa cat back system in a day or two. I saw a Y pipe advertised for a around 180 dollars and I was wondering if you get a depper sound and worth while power increase from it? Also when I get my exhaust I plan on taking it to like mitas or somewhere. What should I expect to pay them for putting on a direct bolt on system like I am getting?

I have a Corsa on mine. I don't think that you'll net much from a Y-Pipe change. Save your cash and wait to get some long tubes and a bigger Y then. That will make your Corsa wake up more than anything.

As far as taking it to Midas, you could really do this in your drive way with a couple hand tools. The only catch is cutting the existing over axle pipe off. If you have a sawzall that will be the only power tool you need. If you can't do any of that, then I wouldn't pay more than a $100 for it. It's basically an hours worth of work with a rack at the most. Everything is slip on and bolt up. Truly one of the most over engineered exhausts around! And worth every penny!

Good luck!

Thanks for your help man. Ill just hold off on getting the y pipe then. I was wondering if you have any sound clips of your exhaust or anyone with corsa? I have heard the corsa sites sound clips and you dont really get real life sound clips. Any inof would be appreciated.

I've got a few, but just like the website there is no justice in the sound. That and the camera is sort of crappy for video, really low res.

Here's my install page though. Has pictures of the install and some videos.

Thanks for your help man. I know the sound quality of the video plays on the sound alot...but when you are just riding around is your car quiet like in the video? I am not knocking your car cause it looks bad as hell! But when you rev it up it has that soun like slp exhaust. Does it really sound like that? Once again thanks for your help.

At highway speed you can tell the exhaust is there, but it's not loud or obnoxious at all. In fact without the headers the Corsa is even more quiet.

Now that you mention that it sounds like an SLP, on video I'd have to agree. But in reality it's just down right mean sounding. I don't really think it sounds anything like either of the SLP setups.

I found a couple videos at the race track, they sound a little better. Unfortunately, I just don't think that any of them sound quite like it does in reality though!

Most of your gains will be seen with the Corsa. The Y-pipe won't make to much of a sound difference and will add about 5-8hp. Installation cost should range from $50.-$75. depending on the shop.

Hope this helps,
Tom
