Cold exhaust 'pop' sound

On 3 different occassions, after starting my car and driving off (no warm up), I have heard a sharp pop, almost like a mini-backfire, coming from my exhaust. My new Magnaflow muffler has maybe 150 miles on it. It has not happened other than right after I start the car and drive off quickly. Is the Muffler still being broken in or is it something else?

I get some snap crackle pops since the install of my catback too but I don't think anything is wrong... just caused by some odd flow ... I could be wrong though.

Yeah, these have been really sharp cracks or pops. Nothing but a little reverberation after it warms up.

JayZ, that is a nice grill on your Z ... you buy the badge then attach it to a billet grille or is there such a grille sold that way?

Jay mines done some,on deceleration not real loud, never during acceleration. Did you go from stock to the Mag.?You may want to put the car in the driveway i.e. an incline w/ the tail pipe down hill get some revs in.It may have some excess condensation holding in it from the cat. I believe.I got a fair amout with both my cars after the exhaust change.
Looks like you got the best grill around buddy what is this the tenth dude including myself inquiring about it

When you first start your car it runs rich to warm the car up faster with catbacks you can here the pops more because of the low backpressure it is normal and nothing to worry about.

Its unburned fuel igniting in the exhaust.

Usually a free flow exhaust will let this happen more because it doesnt always have a chance to be burned off. It happens for often when the car is cold because in open loop the car runs a tad more rich.

Normal ... and I LOVE IT!

When my car is cold, I can get a good series of pops when I start off in 1st, then let off and coast up to the stop sign. It's a good way to wake the neighbors at 6:30 when I leave for work.

Didn't necessarily think it was abnormal- it's just that most of us here need to know everything about every noise that their cars make- me included.

That does make sense to me. Would the fresh air from the A.I.R system have some play in this? Because I know that the last time this happened, the AIR pump was indeed cranking.

Tony, yeah, stock to Magnaflow. Can I give them a plug? I love this muffler (but I will admit, I have no personal experience with other mufflers- just a lot of reading). The snap-crackle-pop doesn't bother me that much. I'm just curious.

As for the grill? Yes, I'm getting a little tired of people always saying, "Your grill looks great". Obviously, only kidding. I appreciate the mention. It was an easy mod and I always thought the stock grill needed a little work.
