Hey guys, think i finally narrowed it down to magnaflow for my catback. Question is, where is the cheapest? And who has had good experiences with these places?
thanks

there was a company that was selling the MF on ebay for a "buy it now" price of $285 then like $30 for shipping

that was a month or so ago i think...just look around. and watch out you don't bid on the v6 version, i think it's 2.75" instead of 3"

I bought mine from him and received it in 11 days. Brand new, in the box, perfect. Can't beat that price.

and the system is awesome, sounds good, looks good and the power increase was amazing. I had the car dynoed stock on 1/9/04 for a baseline and got 278 RWHP (SAE corrected), went back on 2/14/04 to have my Magnaflow catback installed. Prior to install I dynoed stock one more time for a baseline, this time I got 270 RWHP (SAE corrected), it was warmer out than the first stock dyno. Installed my Direct flo lid and holley powershot filter then dynoed again to see gains from the lid and filter, 276.9 RWHP (SAE), so +6.9 RWHP. Then had the Magnaflow installed and dynoed again...312.5 RWHP (SAE), +35.6 RWHP over lid and filter!!

People say my stock numbers were way too low, but whatever. I think mine are accurate and other people lie about theirs. My car was dynoed at a respected shop that is a sponsor on one of the other F-body boards. All I know is that from the lid, filter, and the catback I gained 34 - 42 RWHP over stock. Very nice gains when you consider the price, $315 for the catback and $140 for the lid and filter.

I'm not saying everyone lies. I'm just saying that some people probably stretch the truth or report the uncorrected numbers. The 2001 Z28 was rated at 310 HP, I believe. My car made 278 RWHP SAE corrected, the uncorrected number was 295 RWHP which means that on the day my car was tested it made 295 HP at the rear wheels. That seems to be right on target with the 310 HP rating. Yet, when I posted that I made 278 RWHP stock people insisted it was a bad dyno run and that there was no way it was that low. If you factor in a 10% drivetrain loss it means a rough estimate of 324.5 HP at the flywheel, that also seems to be a good number since I understand that the camaro was underated HP-wise. I know that there is going to be a range of numbers for HP for stock LS1's, but when I posted my dyno results from my modifications and the gains for each mod, people were insisting that there was no way the #'s were right. The shop I used knows what they are doing and the stock numbers were based on results from 3 runs each time (they took the highest run of the 3 runs). I am just pointing out that the gains from my mods were awesome and that I highly reccomend them.

Your stock numbers do seem rather low but your numbers after mods seem right on target. Perhaps you had a problem with your old exhaust system (clog or something random) that kept you so low because 30+ horsepower is extremly high for a catback.

But anyway, Thunder Racing has their maganflow listed for 400 so I would go with Ebay. You'll love the sound

If you want to call everyone liars you should at least first know that the GM horsepower ratings are way to low. All LS1's are good for around 350HP at the flywheel. So yes yours was a little low.

I'm sorry, but everybody else is correct. It's bad to assume most people report exxagerated or uncorrected numbers.

It's a proven fact that the LS1s are underrated, so the factory HP rating means nothing. Also, since your car's an auto, it loses a lot more than 10% before the power reaches the wheels. Even T56 cars lose more than 10%.

Either those were botched dyno runs, or something was wrong with your car, because there's no way you can gain 30-40rwhp from a catback on an otherwise stock car. It just doesn't happen. For someone to claim a lot of other people are lying or exxagerating their numbers then turn right around to say that you thought you actually gained that much power from a catback is amusing.

(And just so you know, my car put down 318rwhp SAE corrected with a lid, catback, and headers...with exhaust leaks and 02 sensor issues at the time.)

you guys are misinterpreting the tone of my posts I think. I am not insinuating that everyone is lying, not at all. I believe 100% that LS1's are underrated from the factory, and I also believe 100% that something was wrong with my stock exhaust for the power to go up that much. Also the 10% loss was a lowball figure, I didn't want to go to high.

I am sorry if I offended anyone with my post, and sorry that the post has gotten so far off of it's original topic. i was merely stating my gains from my mods, and the last time I did so, people told me I was an idiot to claim such huge gains from the catback. All I am saying is that after adding a lid, filter, and Magnaflow catback my car is at 312.5 RWHP and the stock base line was 270-278. That's it.

Again my apologies to anyone I have offended, it was not my intention.
