Can Lid and Stock shaped filter have equal power gains over induction tube system

Can after market Lid and Stock shaped K&N filter have equal power gains over induction tube system (K/N or other)

Anyone have any data or seat of pants expierence.

New Lid claims of 12 HP on one and "up to 17 HP" on another. Don't know if this includes the filter or not...probably the 17 HP is filter and Lid with the "up to" in there.

Also the ribless TB to MAF adapter claim a few HP.

The filter and Lid are 160 $ while the whole induction systems are 350 to 450 $.
They don't seeem to claim that much more thanjust the lid and filter will provide.

Most people just use your everyday run of the mill lid with either a K&N or a AC delco filter because they are proven mods . I'm sure the other induction systems work too , but the gains probably don't justify the added costs . The smooth bellows are more of an appearance mod unless you plan on a wet shot of nitrous, then they are necessary for the nozzle mounting and sealing capabilities .

Lid's rule. Don't waste your money on anything else. Get an Amsoil filter too.

I am just not a fan of oiled filters and the Amsoil flow just as well. Too many horror stories of people having MAF's covered in oil and such. On my Z28 we even ran it without the Amsoil filter and it made the same power. It lost power without the lid, too, FWIW (just running open MAF).

Count me as one of those. Had to replace the MAF this spring because of it. I'll never use a "Gay&N" filter again, especially since independent tests have shown they don't filter dirt quite as well and power gains are extremely minimal over traditional paper.

Agree, my car had a K&N when I bought it awhile back and I dumped it for a Purolator.

It's funny how many people say I was stupid for doing that and I probably lost 15hp by removing the K&N.

Idiots.

stick with a lid...

and 17hp from a lid is ludacris....even 12 is pushing it. unless you already have mods done and the lid is still stock...you'll likely only see 8-10hp from a lid.

and there is no power to be gained from the bellows...its 99.9% visual

if you want good gains with an induction setup...Lid + SSRA setup

+1. I like the SSRA. It's a little pricey, but a nice setup.
