Camaro SS

Hey guys just a quick question.... I heard a rumor that the pre-98 Camaro SS, such as a 97 Camaro SS, was given the LS1 rather than the LT1 found in the Z28. From all that i knew the SS was just a Z28 with a functional hood scoop, suspension, wheels, etc., but the same powerplant. Any help clearing up these rumor would be appreciated.

na man, this is how it looks...

1993 to 96 = Z28 and SS = LT1 Engine
1997 - Z28 = LT1 Engine
1997 - SS = LT4 Engine

then 1998+ had the LS1 engines

There was no 93,94, or 95 SS. They came back in 96. Just a little FYI

So if you see an SS in those three years, it's a clone.

that is correct, 96 and 97 were LT1's with the exception of the very limited production SLP installed LT4's in 97.

Here is the breakdown

93-95 Z28's LT1's

96-97 Z28 and SS LT1's and some limited LT4's

98-2002 98 LS1's. 98 was first year for LS1's in F-bodies
97 was first year for LS1's in Y-bodies

Cool Ah, whaddya want a SS for - they suck !

Just Kidding !

I'd love to have a ' 97 SS w/ the LT4 , but they were all hard tops if memory serves me correctly.

A nice Artic White one w/ Hugger Orange stripes - yeah, baby !

Of course, I really like Sunset orange Metallic ones, too.

Sigh.

So many choices, so few $'s.

Do the '96 & '97 scoops work any better that the '98's up ?

Thanks !

The last LT4 SS I saw was at a local dealership. It was sold before it arrived for $60K!!!! It went straight to Alaska. Very valuable collecter car.

It looks like the 97 SS hood goes directly to the intake but the intake takes a a big turn, the turn isn't a full 360 though so it probably works better.

Also looks like the hood seals onto the intake on the 97 SS.
