Cam Info

Well since I decided to keep the T/A while I go to college I figure I might as well get a cam while I still have the money to do so they thing is I dunno which cam to go with, I want something streetable obviously but I still want to produce some good power without obliterating the gas mileage(ie trex) I'm thinking of a 112 center line and I've looked anything from the tr224 and such but Im just wondering what else is out there I can deal with a mean lope actually I want that but any help would be appreciate oh and the ls6 manifold would be going in at the same time any opinions, I know teke184 had some good results with the torquer

Re: Cam Info

yeah, i think i got about 23/24mpg on the highway coming home last weekend. that was with an m6 doing 80 for 200miles and 55 for 100miles.

you could try one of the slightly smaller cams:

TSP Custom 225/225 Cam: 225/225, .589"/.589", 112 LSA

TSP Custom 228R Cam: 228/228, .588"/.588", 112 LSA

they also have a 231/231 .595" lift cam that would produce good numbers.

realize with any of these larger cams you'll probably be in the same boat as me....NEW CLUTCH TIME

Re: Cam Info

Your mileage sounds damn good to me I just didnt want to end up with single digit gas mileage, i know I will for a while after I get the cam seeing as how i wont keep my foot out of it. I really like the gains you saw (not that I'm trying to steal your setup). You think my z06 clutch will hold up?

Re: Cam Info

if your trans am is your daily driver than i suggest go with a smaller cam. that will give u enough power for your daily drives. a bigger cam would do too but better on the tracks.

Re: Cam Info

how much horsepower do u want to get out from your car?
the 224 cam should give u around 30 to 40rwhp or maybe more with a good tune. it just depends how your car reacts. make sure before u order it, u get all the bolt ons, that'll help.

Re: Cam Info

lid, and ls6 intake, and LT headers, y-pipe catback... id get a new timing chain, oil pump(ls6 pil pump), and a ported throttle body....

thats what TR recomends(i jsut orderd a cam kit and ALOT of other things to go with it.. and that all the stuff to support the cam... get the stage1 cam kit, with all the options from TR...

Re: Cam Info

yeah i see that u got most of the bolt ons. good idea to go with the cam kit which includes all the parts. once u get ur ls6 intake installed than your set. maybe if u want u can add pullys, gears, to increase your horsepower a little more. with the cam that i recommended should put u where u want.

Re: Cam Info

I was planning on the timing chain, springs, retainers, cam, pushrods, oil pump, and was kinda wondering wether or not to get new lifters?...I was looking at their cam kits as well will i need the ported tb? I've heard a couple of sound clips of ls1soundsof teh tr224 but havent heard it in person does it have a nice lope(im really only worried bout the power but a lopey idle sounds sweet too)

Re: Cam Info

i'm sure with a cam kit u will get to 370rwhp and it is easy for u since u have a m6. its harder with a4's since u lose power tru the drivetrain.
