CAI Packages
There's a couple articles on the functionality of the SS hood and Fast Toys Ram Air at www.installuniversity.com

No you don't have to seal off the hood. You have the option of using both the scoop off the hood and the scoop under the car with the SSRA. I've tried it both ways at the track, with no difference. I think that sealing the airbox that FTRA spouts is a myth. JMHO.
SLPs CAI might be the least effective but your car wont run hotter with it and its least likely of the other kits to suckup water.also if you like fast toys sells an extension for it making almost identical to other kits by having it take in air sooner.

the part that covers the radiator more.SSRA comes all the way out from underneath the car.it takes in more but obviously hangs lower.this extension piece makes it similar to a FTRA design.
My buddy has the FTRA with the extension piece. It comes down to the air dam. My SSRA sits about 7 1/2 inches off the ground. The air dam on our cars are about 4 inches off the ground. In effect the FTRA with the extension including the air dam makes this system more susceptible to ingesting water. This is also due to the SSRA being in front of the wheels, where the air dam is about parallel with the wheels. Any splash coming off the wheels might potentially go into or be deflected by the air dam into the FTRA. I have yet to see anybody posting on any board that their SSRA caused their engine to hydrolock. I have however seen people post that they hydrolocked their engine with the FTRA.
The slp CAI is the worst of them all. I had the FTRA on my 01 SS & it didn't raise temps at all & it never sucked up any water. The only way any of those CAI's would suck up water & hydrolock the engine would be if you drove through a deep body of water. If it's just raining & there's water in the road you'll be fine. If I had a SS , T/A, or Z, FTRA would be the way to go.
