burning oil??

well about a year and a half ago my tranny went in my car. i had the dealer rebuild the tranny for me and everything was fine. ok now about the end of february my low oil light came on for no reason..i was about one month from a oil change, i check the oil and i'm about out of oil:eek: so i put about two quarts in and i have the oil changed the first week in march, since that oil change i've put about 1,000 miles on the car. well yesterday the low oil light comes on again!! once again i'm almost dry as far as oil goes...so i know that i'm burning oil but what do you guys think is wrong??

Man I can't believe nobody has chimed in yet on this!! Many people have oil drinking issues on LS1's. And to be honest I don't know much about the fixes people have done, but you can look into a "catch can" or the LS6 style PVC mod (you may have the LS6 PVC on an '01) I think you can also feel behind the throttle body(open the blade) to see if oil is behind there, again i'm sorry because I can't remember what the cause of that is off hand(bad rings maybe??), try a search on the LS6 PVC and catch can and see if that helps......TTT fer ya

Change the PCV valve. It's probably stuck. Mine did the same thing once.

hey guys, im new to the forum. my 99 ls1 burns about a half a quart to a quart of oil in between oil changes ( about 2500 miles). i heard that it is "normal" by GM for Ls1's to do that.i was also told that it kinda depends on how much you are really gettin on the gas pedal too. what do yall think??

99 z28, that is'nt too bad, just keep an eye on it and you should be ok, and if you have an m6 don't ride around in low gear spinning 3grand......I know to sounds sweet but you will blow oil past your rings:cool:

you guys don't think the values are bad?! remember i drove the car about 25 miles in which i could only reach 2nd gear when my tranny went.

thanks Ws6, ill keep that in mind.........i do have an m6, i got long tube headers, y-pipe then i cut the pipe before the muffler so it has a really loud rough sound. every now and then i love doin exactly what you said i shouldnt do.......i didnt know doin that would slip oil past my rings, ill have to cut back on it. thanks again
