Burn-Outs in Reverse...
 

Are they safe? Will they hurt anything?

I just think it might look cool =) And I dont want to do it if it's going to hurt any part of my baby...

Yeah, it may be good on like a '97 V6 Thunderbird (only way I could do a burnout when I had that car), but you even try to give it enough gas to do it on a Z28, and your rear axle will start to hop so much you feel like the damn thing is gonna come out! I did it once by accident, push my foot down a little too much (like not even a quarter of the way is like too much, hehehe) tryin to beat someone out for a parking spot.

I hit the gas to much on accident once and it shook so much I thought my teeth were gonna fly out. I wouldn't recommend it.

It is extremely bad for these cars, and yes you will hurt something. Just ask Brent 94Z :D He just backed up "quickly" to avoid someone backing into him and basically destroyed his rear. The whole suspension and drivetrain is meant to be driven hard only in one direction, and it's not reverse ;)

another thing to consider is the directional tread- Z rated tires. they are designed to rotate one direction. As low as reverse gear is, i would imagine it wouldnt take long to hit the rev limiter too.

Burnouts in reverse would be a bad idea.
If you are ever near a rearend that has the dif cover off, look at the match between the ring gear and the pinion gear as you spin it forward. See how deep the gears mesh with each other. Then spin it backwards and see how shallow this match gets. The two gears are virtually meshing at the very end of the teeth. Its amazing that more people don't break teeth off.
I have watched lots of the big 4x4's tear up a rearend by hooking on to someone in the mud and trying to pull them out in reverse.

.....are funny cause they're usually unexpected;), but otherwise not worth the potential harm to your gears as some of the guys have said......................I'm not saying I've never done it, but I certainly don't make a habit of it:rolleyes:. Besides, when you've got a car that will do a good burnout going forward, that's more impressive anyway!:cool:

haha, i used to do that in my 87 bronco when i was 16, damn thing would peel out unless i did it in reverse.

Did it by accident and the shaking was horrible. I have it on vid and it didn't look good either when I looked at it.
