Brake Life Expectancy
Well, I've got ~6700 miles on my car (already!!!
), and I see no reason for them to be worn out any time soon...............I don't know how long they're good for though?? Maybe 25-30k??

18300 miles and on the OEM brakes. This includes about a half dozen trips to the strip, 15 + autocrosses (6-10 runs each autocross) . The rotors are starting to warp from the abuse (
to the warranty ) , but the OEM pads are still working like a charm. Once you aren't afraid to abuse them, they work awesome!
PS: the brake pads have outlasted the tires almost 2:1 and going strong! My next set of pads will be a some sort of track/street pad... cant wait!!!

I have 73k+ miles on my stock brakes. My rotors warped at like 40k miles, but not bad enough to make me replace them. My brakes now need to be replaced though so I am getting some Eradispeed rotors for the front
With hard driving and racing and the such, I have 17840 on the stock pads and rotors and they need to be changed. I just had the rotor turned, but they have major head cracks and were turned to the minimum and still show some cracks. The pads are starting to look thin. The rears are fine.
WOW everyone that has posted so far is really doing great on tha brakes! I have a little over 24,000 miles on my 02' SS and my rotors had been turned twice and were needing to be turned again real bad. I replaced them this last weekend with EBC rotors. I also replaced the pads with EBC Greenstuffs.
A lot has to do with how the car is treated. YOu go to the track a lot then don't expect a lot of miles out of them. My car has personally only been down the track about 10 times. Also the rotors have to do with how they are treated...our rotors warp easily so you need to be a little careful with them. Those people that drive their car all day then go to a carwash with it better expect warped rotors. Hot rotors + cold water = warped rotors...plain and simple.
I have 41K on the clock & just elected to replace the front rotors w/ PowerStops
(They are not Power Slots - these are Canadian made
& are slotted & cross drilled !) as opposed to turning the factory junk a 2nd time - if that was even possible !!
In any case, the pads have about 2/3 the meat left, so I reused them.
Just to be safe, I had a spare set that I got from my mechanic buddies - they came off an '02 Trans Am Collector's edition that got upgraded brakes done along w/ a supercharger
& 800 miles for the princely sum of $35.00.
I figure the backs are probably in better shape, but have not had a reason to get into there, so have not.
My car has been to the track one time where I made 7 passes & I am fairly easy on the brakes except for the fact that I have a habit of coming up fast to lights.
Oh, well.
Good Luck !

I had to put brakes all the way around on my 2000 SS at 52k. Had just purchased the car. The front rotors were pretty warped when I bought the car. There was enough left on the OEM rotors to turn the fronts but the rears were too thin to be turned. From what they said the brakes were original all the way around. Are there any good replacement rotors out there that'll not rust up too quickly and be more warp resistant than the original equipment ones? How hard are they to install?
As far as a good OEM replacement for a tight budget was from Autozone. As far as the install goes, it is really easy, but here is a good reference link to help ya along! Install University
