basic cam questions
With the my mods in my sig, what kind of power differnce could i expect with the GM hot cam kit?
i want somthing that is going to feel like stock, just want a little more power. Is the z06 cam the same thing as a hot cam?
If not, whats the difference? also who much should i expect to spend on a cam kit, and install?

sorry i don't know anything about the hot cam kit, but if you want to get some extra ponies by putting in a different cam without affecting the smoothness of the car i'd suggest going with an 02 z06 cam as i intend on doing the same thing soon. i've heard of alot of people getting 30 rwhp out of the cam alone and from from what they say it still retains a smooth idle. i believe that you can get an 02 z06 cam and springs for about $300 and it will probably cost anywhere from $300 to $500 (i'm guessing) to get it installed.
About 15-30+ rwhp out of a hotcam, depending on tuning. But if you are looking for something that is stock like, the hot cam is not your choice.
The 2002 Z06/LS6 will be very much like stock with similiar peak rwhp as the hotcam, but not quite as much down low.
If you want to hear a hotcam come out to Sac Raceway this Wednesday ... I generally run out of lane 4 #411, though I might be in lane 9 ... M
Good Luck

I suggest finishing up your bolts on first before doing heads and cam stuff....think of headers, pulley etc...as for the cam...it alright...but not the first choice of many...not much difference from stock

headers, lid, drop in filters, catback, gears, rockers and tuning will net you penty of power

I am thinking about a cam swap as well in about a year (after my warranty is gone). Is the LS-6 cam the best sleeper (good idle, stock like qualities) cam, or are their better ones? Thanks!

There are literally hundreds of differnet cams out there that you could go with. The LS6 is an excellent sleeper cam (not to mention its very cheap) and is why many people choose to go with it. It is also emissions friendly.
Other good sleeper cams that will give you a little more HP would be Lingenfelter's GT2 cam. I don't know the specs off hand, but supposedly it sounds stock and is showing some great numbers. Thunder Racing also has an "Old Man" cam which is supposedly a good sleeper, but both these cams are about double the price of the 02-03 LS6 cam. Stay away from the 01 LS6 cam as it is much smaller and not worth the swap in my opinion.
As for a big lopey cam, the most popular cam out there is probably the TR224, or some other 224/224 cam whcih you can get from practically everyone.
I went with a 228/224 reverse split cam using Comp's XE lobes on a 112 LSA and I absolutely love it. Tuning is a requirement with this cam in an A4, but it accomplished every task I wanted.
1. Excellent low end torque
2. Good area under the curve
3. Flat torque curve (not peaky)
4. Makes peak before 6500 RPM
5. Lopey, but livable on a day to day basis
6. 400 RWHP
You can go bigger, but remember, the bigger you go, the less friendly the car will behave. I haven't been to this board long, so I dont know who all your sponsors are, but Trevor at Texas Speed and Performance sold me my cam and I love it. You might want to give him a call and he can set you up with something good for you.
If you want the mother of all cams, go with LG Motorsport's G5x2 cam.

I have heard of the G5 before, but I am not clear how aggressive it is. Is it a full on race cam, or a street cam? What are its dyno numbers? Thanks.
