My 98 is an old cop car - B4C. Can anyone tell me what exactly this means?

It's like a Z28 only no badges and has a big alternator. I am not sure but I think the suspension might be different.

Right, the B4C interceptor cars have no badging, a larger alternator, poly bushings, and 1LE suspension.
(not sure about the no speed limiter thing) there are not many cars that can do a 160 or more.

Did it come w/the spotlight??? Those can be fun.

no, they almost never have spot lights on them... The Florida Highway Patrol has the LS1 B4C cars... I didnt see any spot lights on them. thought, the FHP have a arrow shaped light bar.

I've seen a cop with an SS in TX. I bet that thing is phat!

B4C is the Special Service Coupe package. It's not normally available to the general public when new, unless an agency that ordered it turns it back. The total difference from the factory between your B4C and a Z is the B4C has the 1LE lower control arms, no Z-28 badges, and the top is the same color as the car. Different option packages (you can't get T-tops), but the same brakes, same alternator, same programming (the speed limiter is there) , etc. for 2002, and I suspect your year also. In the LT1 days there were other differences, but they went away with the LS1. This information was confirmed by Scott Settlemire, and by comparing build sheets (I had both a 2002 B4C and a Z).

If it was in service, the car could have had some of these things modded.

You might check on the production numbers. I don't think there were very many '98 B4Cs made. Your car may be collectible. I recall someone else who had what he claimed to be a '98 B4C indicated he also had the Z-28 badging. Don't know if it was a prototype B4C, or if someone added the badges later. If your car is an original B4C, the Service Parts Identification sticker on your driver's side door will have the code B4C listed, and will not have the Z28 code.

I have seen those SS cops in Texas as well, they look pretty sweet. There is one that it always around my town (Tomball).

According to the GM web page that advertises them for fleet sales, they are only available as automatics. It's kind of misleading, as they made a number of M6 cars over the years. In 2002 there were approximately 126 manual B4Cs. Of that 126, GMMG converted well over half into various aftermarket configurations (ZL1s, Tom Henry SSs, and Berger Hot Rod Camaros).

Well mine definitely does not have the Z28 badges (but it does have a very ****ty paintjob and random holes that were former antennas) and it also has the B4C option on the sticker in the drivers door. I didn't look to see if it said Z28 or not. A collectable you say? Is that a, "oh cool a 98 B4C" collectable or a "here's some extra cash when you sell it because its a 98 B4C" collectable?

Unmolested, they are worth a premium over an equivalent Z. With 100,000+ hard highway patrol miles, and the various mods, who knows? You might have to restore it to get a collectible premium.
Do a search on this site and see if you can find the production numbers for 1998. If your B4C is as rare as I think it is, it's a keeper.
