Question 370 HP on stock Trans AM?

A guy in my class just got a 1999 Trans AM. This car is sweet *** sweet. it only has 8000 miles on it, so i would guess it is just barely broken in. He told me the guy before him special ordered it with a "Special" tranny and a "Special" rear end. I am pretty mechanicly saavy and a good tranny and rear end dont make horsepower. He popped the hood for me and i saw no modifications. I think their dealer is a liar. this kid doesnt know any better, but i do.Im just wondering if there are special trannies and rear ends you can order from GM like that.He doesnt have ram air. so im also wondering how i would do in a race with him.
P.S

I wish i knew transams were more "Prestigious" than camaros when i got mine. I think that is gay.

More prestigious, huh? If you mean more expensive, then I guess you're right.

The dealer bent this guy over when he sold him the car if he thinks he got a factory "special" tranny and rear end.

I can understand how he might think that a lower ratio rear end gearing or maybe a 12-bolt or something could be "special" but ask him what is so special about this transmission (not that I've heard of GM doing this). I'm curious to hear what the dealer told him.

Check this out...Gearing is probably different and the transmission thing is problaby either a aftermarket shifter or like a shiftkit or something. Its common practice for some reason for dealerships to do stuff to the cars...Carl black fixes things with the car...Like the horrible stock shifter before they sell them. My car looks stock. You can't tell I have as much power as I do...of course you can hear it but at idle it sounds like any old car. Looks stock.... sounds a tad louder then stock...But is definitly not.

Mods? I think it would be easyer for me just to list the things that aren't changed in the car.

Assembled here in the USA. No thinking required.

You're friends' car isn't the only one who got the "special rear end treatment" . The only thing I can possibly think of is that his car got the 3.23 rear for the automatic, if it's an auto, I can't remember if you said or not. I know the Auburn differentials were optional, but I think only on the SLP cars. No transmission options that I know of, unless your counting a no-cost automatic.

Forgot to answer this part of the question... if you're both "stock", then it should be totally up to the driver in a race. But with his "special" rear end and tranny, he'll probably be running 9's in the 1/4 mile, right?
