From: S.F. Cal,
Question Automatic versus 6 spd longevity?????

Ok ls-1ers which transmission seems to be more durable?
I,m considering an a.t. but i like manuals better!
Ive heard auto,s can go at 130,000 miles which seem sort of short>
How many miles have the A.T.,s in your cars Have gone befor needing a rebuild?
Isn,t the rebuild price over $2,000
Is an Ss any better than a stock z or t,a,
ive seen ls-1,s advertised for 13,000 all the way down to $6,000

Personally, I have seen the manual trannies to be able to not only last longer, but take more of a beating versus the automatics. Depending who you go with, a rebuilt automatic can easily tally a cost of 2K.

The T-56 is much more durable than the piece of **** 4L60E and are also very cheap to rebuild if you completely wreck them. ($600 +/- )

I'm not a fan of the auto trannies. With enough power/abuse they die horrible deaths no matter how you build them... that's why high power guys usually convert to a TH350 or TH400.

The SS/WS6 is basically the same as the Z28/TA with some cosmetic differences and bolt-ons.

definitely agree.. a rebuild on a auto is quickly in the 2K range but on a manual it usually is just the pressure plate that goes and that's usually well under 1K... think it was like $600 or $700 when I killed it on my 95 fbird and that was at 120K
