Thinking of this cam...

Thinking of this cam...
So I found a cam on a part out near me and just had a couple of questions for those with more experience.
Comp Cam, 224/230-.588/.588 112 lsa
This will be going on my (mostly) stock DD 2001 ss, minus intake, LTs, ORY and catback (exhaust is going on right around the same time)
1. I'm curious if anyone has used a similar spec cam for a similarly modded street vehicle and what their opinions are.
2. I know I'm looking at new pushrods / springs, but would you think this would run well without a tune?
I'm going to take a look at it and maybe pick it up for $200 (hoping to talk him into the springs and pushrods depending on quality and wear) taking the above into consideration does anyone see any issues with me picking this up as a garaged future project?
Thanks again for any feedback,
-Greg
Edit: I'm planning on keeping the stock heads for this venture...

Re: Thinking of this cam...
That's a decent cam. I'm sure there are plenty of guys around here that have it or one like it; hopefully someone will check in here and give you a first-hand opinion.
There are certainly more aggressive options out there; it all depends on your goals and desires.
A tune is an absolute requirement to go with a cam upgrade. It will run very poorly without a tune. Mail-order tunes are inexpensive (~$150 last I checked) and will get you close enough.

I run MTI X1 cam 230/227 - .591/.571- 112 and love it. Your specs are close. Smaller cams are nice for daily drivers. Big cams make more power but you have to spin the hell out of them and then they break. I drove mine for a month without a tune without a problem. I didnt run it hard without a tune though.
