98 Z28 BONE STOCK dyno #s

tested on a dynojet dyno. my bone stock 98Z28 A4 2.73 made 285hp and 312 torque. pretty average numbers. Im going to do some cold air mods and a cutout and try again.

More than that! My '99 Z28 put down (on a DynoJet)

290.29 RWHP
303.36 RQTQ

With just a Whisper lid & K&N filter with the electric 3" cutout in the CLOSED position.

Then made two more pulls with the electric cutout OPEN and the results below:

306.28 RWHP
317.27 RWTQ

A 16 RWHP gain just from the 3" cutout! Similar results have been documented before with other LS1 cars. This was here in Las Vegas where the elevation is 2300 ft so the numbers are nothing to brag about, but that cutout is the best bang for the buck I ever purchased. (electrically operated is the shiznitz)

I was wondering how a 98 Z28 would compare to a 98 WS6 on the dyno? How much difference would there be? Please post some numbers. Thanks

the Ws6 should be a little higher than a Z28 due to the lower resticted intake and exhaust. I dynod with a 99 Ws6 M6. he had 309hp/321tq with just a lid and catback.

ok...

Why is it our cars, z28/SS is rated at above 300 hp, and when dyno'd BELOW IT?

It's starting to get on my nerves, I see it more and more...someone told me he saw a stock ss pull 280hp on dyno. That is pretty sad considering SS's stock are supposed to be pulling in '325'.

That's a different of almost 50 hp.

I have an ss, and I like to think of my car being above 300... but it probably isn't.

Dissapointing...

That's because it's 325 at the flywheel..... not at the rear wheels...

If it dynoed 280 rear wheel hp then that's almost dead on with the factory's 325 fly wheel hp rating.

If the Z28 pulled 285 rwhp through an A4 then that's about 15 hp more at the fly wheel than the factory's claim.

When GM claims 305 hp on a Z28, that means that GM is 100% sure that every single Z28 that leaves the assembly line will put 305 to the flywheel. This is where Ford got busted when they claimed certain horsepower, but the production variances caused some to dip below claimed hp #s.........and this is very bad business.
